color matching chrome bumpers?

Does powder coat over chrome work well? Mines bright white.
Had a decorative globe stand done in bright white, too heavy to bring outside and check color against truck lol

pretty sure they would sand blast the chrome off to do powder coat

You should know, Powder Coating is no longer just a basic spray in a couple of colors

I have a few different Harley Gas tanks, that you would swear were Metal Flaked Paint

The Powder Coating was never buffed or Polished

@blackbetty14 Thank you for digging deeper into this conversation and finding other threads & the picture. Looking at that picture I am not a fan of that flare being a 2-piece. Would it be more appealing painted, maybe..?
Also, I would agree with you on the flares having a "gap" where the 2 different pieces of material of the bumper meet.

yea, powder coating has come a long way honestly. one thing they will never be able to duplicate (at least for now) is the finish of real auto paint (done well). Powdercoating is not a base/clear and when the powder is melted the coating always has a sheen to it and a bit of orange peel. Its hard to get it very smooth and even if you do there is no real gloss or depth to it. You could clear over but I have never stuffed powder coating to apply a clear and I'm not sure how that would affect the powder base being scuffed. I do like powder coating on smaller parts for its durability.

The Powder Coating Shop that i use, did not even buff my tanks & i have not even waxed them.
I just wipe then down before i take a ride

I think they look great, 1 set of tanks has a blue metal flake & the other set has a red metal flake appearance

Ive seen pictures of it, yes. And it looks amazing. I seriously want to find someone to swap with me. Their front and rear chrome bumpers for my front and rear painted 1 piece bumpers.

Most people choose to vinyl wrap their 2 piece bumpers to make them paint match. Not sure why but its a route alot of Ram owners take. Im pretty sure its got something to do with the chrome and all the prep work required to properly paint it.

Lots of times it has to do with paint chipping and rust coming from the chipping

the frame of your truck is Powder coated Powder coating is extremely tough and if you take the chrome bumper in ask them to sandblast the bumper which should strip it then powder coat it depending on the finish you chose it should stand up well to stone chips and stuff !

Coworker did his gmc bumpers some years ago from same place, looked great but he had them painted over cause the white wasn't exactly the same. Ill stop in some time and check the samples.

Color matched door handles, bumpers and figure out what i want for a grille, never ends! Then my chrome projector lights will have to change too
