I replaced my AC compressor clutch recently. It had a very low resistance reading and worked fine for a few weeks. It stops working this week. What bothers me is the symptoms make no sense to me.

1. The clutch coil resistance mesure 5 Ohms.
2. The power come to the clutch measure 11 ~ 12 volt.
3. When connected the clutch to the battery or a special voltage output device at 11~12 volt, the clutch engage nicely.
4. When connecting the original clutch power, nothing happens. When adding an amp gauge in the circuit, no amp reading.

I am completely lost here, why 2 works but 3 doesn't? why Volt reads 12 v, resistance reads 5 ohms and no current.

Something must be dead simple that I am missing here.

You might have 12 volts to the clutch, but do you have a ground?
