Convince me on getting a tuner

I'm not sure. I havent revved my truck in park since high school, so I have never bothered to ask.

Crap, I just did this last week in the parking garage to see how many car alarms I could get to go off. I just turned 41 yesterday.

Quick question guys, in terms of the intune vs. trinity. Does the trinity save the stock mapping on the device itself? Saving time so you don't have to go back to your computer to reload the stock tune? I'm just wondering because if I were to go to a dealer I wouldn't want them to see a newly flashed pcm, and I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to have the option for convenience and speed when reloading tunes. I do have a 2014.

Both tuners store the stock file, so you don't need a computer to return to stock.

Hi,

I just received my Diablo Trinity and the modified PCM from Diablo for my 2016 RAM.

However I am not sure about the right procedure...

Should I proceed like this?

A/
1/ swap of stock PCM with the modified Diablo PCM
2/ save of stock tune (from the modified PCM) to the trinity tuner
3/ load of new tune to the modified PCM

Or should I first save the stock tune from the stock PCM??

B/
1/ save of stock tune (from the stock PCM) to the trinity tuner
2/ swap of stock PCM with the modified Diablo PCM
3/ load of new tune to the modified PCM

Ok. Found it...
No way to get the stock tune out of the stock PCM.
So it was option A/

Saved the factory tune in the Trinity.
Saved the Diablo tune 87+ Octane (there was no 89 tune in the Diablo Trinity) without MDS into the modified PCM from Diablo.

And soon getting and using the Hemifever tune for 89 octanes

Having loaded new maps and played with the warm-up settings on my Triumph motorcycles I know the great benefit of being able to load maps. TuneECU is free software we (Triumph owners) can load on our pc and select different maps then download to the ECU. With that said, LOL, I'm looking for something for my 2012 4.7 to enhance it's towing and unlock some performance. It seems like the transmission works very hard and the rpm's stay high aboye 68mph when towing. Superchips has a 'towing' map which has peaked my interest and after doing some reading some have stated the map can be used at all times. Anybody have any experience with it or can make a recommendation? I'm a little shell shocked at the price of these plugins since I have been using free software on the bike, but I do know it's well worth it.

This has probably been covered but we are on page 21 of responses and I don't have time to read them all.

With the 91 octane tune can you run 87 or 89 octane without causing damage? I plan to run 91 but if the price happens to spike and I'm not able to switch tunes I just want to make sure I won't damage anything.

I will be driving 1000 miles in 2 weeks and didn't really want to run 91 since 90% of it will be on the highway. Just curious if I'll have to switch tunes before the drive. I've ran 89 since I bought the truck.

Yes, you need to switch tunes if you plan to run less than 91 octane. You dont ever want to run a lower grade fuel than what your tune calls for.

I'm not planning on finding out but what would happen if someone did run a lower grade?

Running a lower grade fuel with the higher octane tune will cause spark knock. When the computer detects this, it will pull timing to protect the motor. This will result in a loss of power and fuel mileage.

Has anyone used the bully dog a pillar mount with the Diablo trinity. It's defently the cleanest option for mounting. Just wonder if anyone has a step by step install or experience doing it, need to know if it just clips in or is it held on with 2 way tape. I would want to be able to remove rather quickly and with ease before I bring to the dealer.

Regular in my part of Texas is 87 I think, but that's mid grade in Colorado if I recall correctly. Mid grade and premium drop also.

When you purchase a Diablo tuner from us with the upgraded Hemifever tuning, we will ask you what octane you plan to run. Hemifever will send you both a low octane and high octane tune, so just let theim know what fuels you plan to run. Most people get 89 and 93 octane, but they will write 87 and 91 octane as well if that is all you have available.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the Bullydog pillar myself. The trinity monitor is big, so it does not push all the way into the pillar without the top of the monitor hitting the pillar itself. You wont notice this from the driver seat, but you will see it every time you get in and out of the truck. Because of this, I prefer to just use the suction cup mount that is included and mount it in the lower left corner of the windshield.

Loaded the stock 91 tune when I got the tuner yesterday and ran it around a bit after work and this morning. Could definitely feel the stiffer shifting and a bit more responsive and harder pull. Got the custom 89 and 92 tune from Sean this morning and loaded the 89 since I'll be taking a 1000 miles round trip next week, didn't really feel like paying for premium when it's mostly highway driving. Haven't driven since loading the custom 89.

I did disable the MDS and attempted to disable the traction control but it wouldn't let me. Not concerned now but if anyone had any info that'd be great. I'll be emailing Sean log info after I run the 92 tune and a few tanks of gas and will question him about it then.

Anyone ever run the "fuel milage" stock tune from their tuner? What numbers did you get?

Ran my truck for 80 miles last night and average 19.6 mpg with a breakdown like this:
-40 miles at 72mph
-35 miles at 60mph
-5 miles 30-40mph
Pretty average driving conditions without any grades up or down.

Pretty happy with the average but obviously the best milage came when running 60mph. I'll be traveling approx 600 out of 1000 doing 75+mph next week and wondered if running the "Fuel milage" tune might help?

I've been thinking about getting a turner but with 72k on my 2011 don't know if it's worth it ??? I have the Vararam from Moe's and I'm running 275/65/20's low end kinda suffers , I believe I have 3:55 out back so that doesn't help either... Any suggestions , I was also toying with an Exhuast but with all the droning issues I'd rather not be bothered I do mostly hwy trailering so bottom end performance for trailering and MPG are my biggest concerns . What's your opinion ???

I am no expert, however I have read there are tunes designed for fuel economy ?
If you do look at and exhaust you could just replace the muffler. The MagnaFlow on mine works nice with no in cabin drone
