My truck needs some coolant in it. I will be getting my heater core replaced soon so I am guessing when that gets done all new coolant will need to be replaced? Not sure on that one.

But anyway till that job gets done is it ok to use Prestone or Peak? I know with Pontiac bonneville it was suggested not to use them because they had something in it that ate the head gasket, wasn't sure about dodge.

Second question is power steering fluid. Any specific brand I have to use?

I was reading up on Internet about antifreeze and it was showing to use a certain kind of coolant for our trucks. Since I am not replacing all coolant yet, would it be just ok to put distilled water in? If so how long can I drive with that just in? I'm ordering parts for my heater core/ evaporator/ blend door job by end of this week, then getting it done as soon as I get parts hopefully.

How low are you? You want a HOAT coolant, either buy the Dodge stuff and cut it with water or an aftermarket that is HOAT.

The reservoir is not filled I can see. Haven't checked fully.

I read online to not mix coolants. Problem I have is, I have no clue what type coolant is already in there since I bought it used.

Now would that be pointless since I am getting heater core job within this month?

Go ahead and flush the system now if youre really low and refill it. Once you do the heater core job you wont loose that much and you can top it off when youre done

Now since a flush is recommended, would a flush cause problems since my heater core is leaking? It's not leaking inside but I know water core is bad due to eat output/smell of lovely syrup. That's why I thought of doing a top off that way after heater core job is done I can then do a full flush and start off with all good. Plus I can do research on how to do a full flush lol.

Sorry for millions of questions, but I read also to use distilled water for mixing, I was just at my grocery story and all I see is spring/ natural, where are you finding distilled?

Walmart has distilled.

I use Zerex G-05 for my dad's 4.7. It's HOAT, manufacturer approved and much cheaper than the Mopar stuff. But it's a gold color.

As for your PS fluid, as long as it's ATF4 you're good.

Might be dumb question, but when doing the coolant, do I mix coolant and distilled water in seperate container then pour in reservoir or do I pour coolant in, then water and it mixes itself?
