Man.. this is clear as mud. the first 3 oil changes I had done at the dealer and the filter looked like the MO-899. I did my last oil change with a purolator and I never noted the part number but it looked to be the same size as the MO-899. ( will note it when I take it off)
However.. I am gettng ready to do another oil change and the parts guy i noticed gave me Purolator L24651 which looks like the 899, however on the recipt it says "2014 Dodge Charger R/T", I looked this part number up on purolators website and it shows it for the HEMI 5.7L 09-12. the correct part number should be L12222 (for 13+ Hemi 5.7L). However the difference here is not just size, look at the difference in the relief vlave PSI on both of the filters.. I would like to see the difference of the MO-899, and MO-339 to see if they match what purolator has speced.. If I were you guys I would stick with what is recommended. I am going to return my filter for an L12222 and take Purolators word for it as I cant find any specs for the Mopar one.

Check the links out for the Purolators:

L12222 13+

L24651 09-12

Wonder why there's a difference? The motor's are not any different.

...that we know of. They could of changed anything. With everything electronically controlled now the smallest thing could make a difference. The part number is different for a reason the way i see it..

Well, the new filters are thinner in size. So that would be a reason to make a different part number.

I measured the O-Ring {Gasket} on both the Fram Ultra 10600=smaller filter and Fram Ultra XG2=Larger Filter and they are the same diameter.

Again. I dont think there will be issues. But tgere was a reason they did it. Tge more i think about it its almost like tgey wanted more oil pressure, of constant. But again. No one really knows. The valve is different so its not just the size. I have been running tge bigger one since i bought tge truck. Who knows this could fix the hemi tick issue..

Hi everyone, I just did my first Oil change, been contemplating on going back to the dealer or doing it myself. I still got one free oil change from the dealer. it was a PITA to get the stock filter off. (from factory) super tight ended up going hillbilly and throwing a screwdriver through it. Works every time! :roflsquared:

So the original filter is small yes. the MO-899 fits perfectly, But at $7.49 the Puralator L24651 was $3.27. Ill only be keeping the oil (conventional Pennzoil 5w20) in the truck until 7k then ill get the dealer to change it again for another 3k to finally switch to fully synthetic at 10k (as i do in every one of my cars)

The L24651 and MO-899 are slightly larger in diameter than the smaller one from the factory. The O-Ring/Gasket is identical in diameter with the smaller ones. When looking at the oil filter it looks like its too large or it will leak...but thats not possible as the gasket rings are applying the same pressure and coverage as the smaller ones.

Information is all over the place about these different sized filters, i found it easier to lay down under the front bumper and reach both hands up forward of the cross member to reach the filter.

Fun day today changing her oil but is was almost pitch black.

I've been using the Fram XG2 instead of the XG10060. The XG2 being the larger filter for the 9-12 years. No issues.

The only thing that is weird is the oil pressure. It used to sit at around 55 on a cold start, now it's at 59 and stays there longer. With the 10060, once warmed up to temp, pressure would drop to 29-30 at idle in gear, with the XG2 it drops to 24. Not sure what to make of that, but those numbers are all well within the operating specs. So....who knows.

I think I will stick with the XG10060 until my warranty runs out. I know the XG2 is a Very Good Filter. The lower Oil PSI makes me a bit uneasy...

I'm thinking the XG2 just flows more. Increased volume of flow may reduce pressure a little, but not when it matters under loads. Load pressure is fine.

I understand what you are saying! My sons 5.4L 3V uses the same filter... It would make it easier just to buy the XG2 for both.

What is the benefit of a larger oil filter? Tried Google with that question, but that came up with more negatives than positives...

The only thing I have read that made some what sense is--->"The reason I use a larger filter is to lower the face velocity through the media and increase filtration efficiency somewhat."

One thing to remember here... The XG2 filter is just a little bit bigger then the XG10060. I'm sure the 2014 would be using the XG2 size filter if not for the electric power steering.

As for any benefits? Maybe more filter media! A bit more oil which will aid in cooling.

I would never tell any one under warranty to use a larger oil filter. It is their choice!

My 2013 came from the factory with the bigger Mopar filter. I have used the larger filter for 2 oil changes, no problems.

I know Very few owners Cut open the oil filters they use to actually look at the filter they brag on so often!

Here are pics of a Fram Ultra that has gone 12K miles.... Once again this filter gives me full confidence in my choice. This filter is in amazing condition for the mileage it has cycled through.

I'm not bragging-->I am showing proof of a Very Well Made Filter that is sold for a Very Resonable price!

My dad and I have always used Fram as well...no issues in our 4 Dodge trucks, all have gotten 200k+ with zero powertrain issues. He actually has 375k and counting on his 2003 3/4 ton QC long bed 4x4 with a Hemi. He usually gets the cheap orange ones...I used to always get the silver mid level ones, but have changed to the Ultra's recently.

Just routine stuff that wears out over time. No major issues. He drives like an old lady and doesn't push the truck hard at all. I'd say the biggest thing would be replacing front-end sort of stuff, like how I have had to do with my truck after being lowered for 8-9 years...I have 210k on my 04 1500 with the hemi.

He is starting to get a good bit of smoke coming out the exhaust...I've tried to get him to use some 15W-40 diesel oil like how I have been doing on mine after it got to about 150k, but he refuses to stray from his 10w-30 Quaker State.
