Hi there. I own an 04 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 5.7 Hemi Quad cab & Im in dire need of info/advise.

I have replaced the rack/pinion before due to leaking, but now the power steering is acting-up under 1000rpms (parking lot or turning).

Ive been told about the high pressure switch will throw a code (I have no light on) but Dodge may of changed that in 02 due to emissions testing. Im not willing to pay the dealer's price (on a budget) to hook up their computer to read the switches output reading, so is there any other way to test & figure out if I need to replace the switch or pump?

Im about to try a Lucus product that was recommended to me that may help lube the pump & rack & get rid of noises.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

At low rpms only it sounds cranky like not enough fluid, which it is at the proper level & gives a stiffer steering feel (more effort needed to turn wheel). At higher rpms (1200 & up) it sounds normal & steering is back to normal. This is why Im figuring either the high pressure switch not working or the pump is on the way out, but I have no idea on how to determine 1 or the other???
