Question guys, I have a 2012 1500 5.7 Longhorn and am thinking about a tuner and after searching different threads can you tell me what are the advantages of a "custom tune vs. canned tune" may sound like a dumb question but am asking anyway. I just want to sharpen the shifts and drivability. Had a Flashpaq
on my 05 Hemi Ram and loved how it woke it up.

Thanks!

Canned tunes on these trucks have been showing about 20-22hp/tq and are a 1 size fits all kind of thing. The Hemifever custom tuning has been showing gains of 30-35hp/tq, will include a custom transmission tune to make the truck more responsive, and will be tailored specifically to your truck and mods to get the most out of it without sacrificing reliability.

With us running the promotion on FREE Hemifever tuning on the Diablo units, its a no brainer to go the custom route and get the most bang for your buck.

^that's a good deal.
The HemiFever tune is the next best thing to a true custom dyno tune, for hundreds less.

Just to clarify, the custom transmission tune doesn't apply to the 8spds correct? I thought I remember reading they can't but tuned but I could be wrong.

Correct. Trans tuning is only for the 5 and 6 speeds.

so with the Hemifever tune I can turn off the MDS (which is the ECO cylinder dropping correct??) and extend the shift points out a little, the shift pattern changes with my 05 seem to help it the most. Also on my 05 I did the FlowMaster muffler, CIA and TB spacer at the same time, how much of that would I have to do now to my 2012?

The Diablo tuner itself gives you the option to turn MDS on or off whenever you want. So regardless if its the canned or a custom tune, its up to you when you install the tune....

And with Hemifevers tuning. You can add mods later if you want, dont have to do them all at once. He will retune for the new mods for free. He won't charge you again until you go heads/cam or boost. The Hemifever tuning & Diablo tuner combo is your best bang for the buck though. His tuning is definitely better than the canned tunes Diablo offers.

Like said above, you can disable MDS yourself anytime you want, or Hemifever can do this for you when he sends your custom tuning. If you want him to remove it, simply let him know when he asks for your truck info and modifications.

I have had my 93 octane hr custom tune for about 2 weeks now, took some tweaking but Sean got it dialed in, Im very happy with it. I have a Vararam intake and power wedge, 180 stat, Moe's 87mm throttle body, BBK shorty headers, and of course the trinity 1000, would it be worth it to go from the shortys to long tubs, from what I have seen from dyno numbers you gain more power in the mid and top end, where the shorties gain more in the low end.

I had the same problem with the canned tune from diablo, was pulling timing bad with knock, the custom tune corrected all that, I am able to monitor most of the parameters via my computer using the data viewer that was installed, now I am able to watch 5-10 minutes of logs, i can see when and where thing change in different rpm ranges, it really helps alot.

Im pretty tapped out as for aftermarket parts, the only thing I will be doing next is an electric cut out, my truck is a daily driver, installing a cam and higher stall converter would be nice, but I allowing someone to go inside an engine and transmission that hasn't given me any problems is scary to me.

In my opinion the canned tune is okay, better than stock, but a custom tune is just that, customized to your vehicle and taste, it allows you to get the most out of the aftermarket parts you may have installed.

Absolutely. The cooler tstat just allows the tuner to get a little more aggressive on the tuning because the cooler cylinder wall temps will help prevent detonation.
