Damage from running open headers

So I just installed long tubes on my truck and need to take it to an exhuast shop (20 mins of driving) to get a y pipe fabricated. I just found a guy selling high flow cats for a good deal which would add about another hour of driving with open headers. Will this be a problem, or should I be good as long as I dont go to heavy on the throttle?

I straight piped mine. Only lasted a couple days as they sound like hot dog sg1te.

Are you saying that a larger diameter pipe does not allow for higher flow?

Larger dia pipe will flow more. But there are no high flow cats. I was told this by a guy who’s sold cats for 30+ yrs. They all have the same substrate . So the only way it will flow more air is if it’s a lager dia. However if you put a 3in dia cat on a 4 banger it will never get hot enough to be efficient . Probably never have that issue on a v8 though. If look in/through 2 different cats , say one stock & one somebody says is high flow. Alll the lil holes inside are the same size holes . It not like one a stir stick & one’s a Mciky D’s straw.

Assuming you have the O2 sensors installed in the headers? My main concern would be that it is in fuel control and not running super lean or rich. Other than that make sure the hot exhaust from the headers is not blowing on something it shouldn't and melting them.
If the factory cats were in good shape no reason not to use them. Just that the "high flow" cats may be easier to plumb up on a custom system.
