I am a 58 year old fart that bought and built a nice looking 2016 Ram 3500 Cummins, custom bumpers 12k winch wheels, tires, Thuren front coils and shocks etc.....
I no longer need a 1 ton because we decided against a monster sized toy hauler but we like to go to the Outer Banks with extremely deep sugar sand and have come close to burying my 1 ton every time. So I saw a Red loaded 2017 Power Wagon with 22k miles for 44k +ttl, no tax because my truck is worth much more than the PW.
My current truck is below, what would you do

I'd get the PW hands down. You already outlined it yourself. you don't need the diesel, and you don't need to keep burying the 1 ton! That said, you'll lose some amenities going " down " to the PW. However, you'll gain some offroad capabilities that 1 ton could only wish it could do!

I was reading that exhaust enhances performance and I need to check into my options for that.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; there are better places to spend money on a Power Wagon than what it’s farts sound like.

Do you have as much recovery gear as you really need to go along with that winch? Do you have on board air or a portable compressor and deflators to adjust tire pressure (for an 8k lbs truck on sugar sand beaches, I’d call this a must)? The Bilstein shocks on these trucks are dogs, anything Thuren offers would be an improvement. Do you intend to off road it anywhere with rocks or trees? Rock sliders would be a good investment. Do you need to tow heavy, just not often enough to justify the Cummins? Think about bags and cradles for the rear axle.

ive never said it, but ill say it now. the brown note adjustment is a must have for all applications. 2nd step is to install tracks and tear up the streets of Moscow with a gallon of $5 vodka.

atleast.. thats what i imagine as my retirement

You didn't mention whether our not you'd be towing something smaller than what you originally planned on. Do your research on payload and towing capacities for the PW. A loaded PW will have the lowest available payload. It may surprise you. If you tow regularly, or plan to in the future, it would be worth looking at those specs.

I tow a good sized toy hauler frequently with my '16 PW, and it is adequate. Weight distributing hitch off the receiver is the only aid. For off road articulation and simplicity / reliability, I have yet to find a need to add air bags, etc.

Level ground, what I would call "medium duty" towing and the desire to hit the beach would make it a Power Wagon decision, hands down.

The weight of the Diesel on the nose (along with that bumper and goodies) all add up to a really nose-heavy beast. Sure, you have the torque, but the snappy response and higher revving power characteristics of the PW will keep you on top of the powder and floating along. I pass by so many buried on our local beaches, deep silt beds and loose uphill trail climbs just 'Rolllin Coal, and Diggin Holes' going no where but down.

PatinAZ is right... get some wider tires, air down when you arrive, and go have a blast with complete confidence!

Plus, the Power Wagon rides so nice everywhere stock, for the sake of interstate comfort and the lack of that HD 2500/3500 interstate 'kick' alone on my 50+ year old spine, I would pass on the few Pro's a 3500 Diesel would provide. Matter of fact, I just did a couple months ago; Went looking at the 2500 Diesel, and ended up bringing home another Power Wagon!

Curious if a PW can play in the Dunes? Check out this vid of mine; The bone stock '13 with the 5.7 (on slightly wider wheels / tires) running with Quads out in the local Sand Dunes.

Hum, you came to the Power Wagon section to ask if you should get one. I hope you weren't looking for an unbiased opinion. :Big Laugh: My totally biased opinion is YES get one.

The Solo Exhaust Delete kit is the best way to go. It’s not super loud low drone at 65-85 mph. I’ve been running mine since feb and absolutely love it.
Give Nick@gotexhaust a holler and he’ll get ya hooked up. He’s a preferred vender here and One super cool cat to work with. He also has a badass PW a 17 I think.

Recovery Gear - have all that from straps to tree savers to snatch block
Portable air - have that
Towing - I have a 3k lb utility trailer with 14k lb capaciity that I tow haul my SXS, May get a smaller toy hauler but just didn’t want a 40’ beast. Actually we may just end up with a class B RV and tow our trailer with toys on back
Tires - I have KO2s on the truck now but love the Duratrac. I use four wheel in sand or ice/snow so the so probably in the first week 35” Duratrac’s will go on there
Side steps - I have Amp Research steps on my white truck I am taking off today to put on the PW - that is something that I am not looking forward to (Never do rock climbing so not worried about denting them)

My only concern or worry is I look at the pictures and video’s of the red PW and they look cool but I have always had white or black vehicles so going to bright red scares me a little bit but I sure I will get used to it.

I wish I could hide that bumper it was custom made and color coated with a bed liner type material but it is smooth like paint.
Dealer says they can’t give very much extra money for add ones and you say okay I will take them off they start the double talk. I am supposed to do the trade Friday evening so it took me 8 hours to put those Amp hideaway steps on so hopefully it won’t take as long to remove them.
