Yesterday I was trying to set up the oiling system. I wanted to prime it and make sure the oil was flowing before putting the valve covers on. 2nd hiccup was no threaded nipple for the oil filter. I wanted to pull one off one of the 5.7's to see if it would work. Unfortunately I did not have a 12 mm Allen head socket. I did get the plugs pulled for ease of rotating the crank. Also I can confirm the gaps are .028. For truck application (rear sump), you have to swap main cap bolts 1 & 3. Now the windage tray and pan can go on.

There's 2 holes above the filter,the top one is the one you want to use to prime the lifters/rocker shafts,the bottom one primes the oil pump/crank bearings,it's virtually impossible to prime it through the filter.

Yesterday I got the 12 mm allen socket, took the oil filter nipple off the 5.7 and it fit the 6.2! One thing not to forget is if you’re running a rear sump pan, be sure to knock out the dip stick plug before installing the oil pan. I completed the oiling system, filled her with synthetic M1 0-40 and a quart of Lucas, got her primed using a high torque drill and oil flow was great. I installed the valve covers, checked the spark plug gaps and installed,they were .028 (stock plugs were Bosch R6) before installing the coil packs.

Yes, I've priced out the transmission. It's a 4x4 so the front, rear and the transfer case are in the works. I'm considering changing from 3.21 gears to 3.92's. This should help with the 37" tires. Also on the transfer case, make it a full time AWD. This is my daily driver work truck.

Yesterday I put the engine into the Ram. While I was connecting the wiring harness one of the oil sensor unit plugs was unusually tight so I'm going to take a closer look at it. The main ground to block bolt was a different thread type so I change it out. The knock sensors connectors where not the same so I used the ones from the 5.7. I'm going to check With MMX and make sure there are no issues with this.


The transmission is bolted to the block and the flex plate is next. For the trucks with rear sumps and dipsticks take caution if you have headers and a 4x4. On mine I have SS long tube headers and the factory dipstick will work with 1 slight mod. I'll cover that next if I get time to work on it this evening.

When we used to build engines in the 70s, we lubricated all friction points with a 50/50 mix of STP and 30wt oil. It was too thick to run off completely before we could crank it. Never had a problem. We were inspired by the big red label on the Crane Cams box.

Ever thought of swapping the Lucas for BioTechs Lubegard.Lucas is basically nothing more then an oil thickener.Our resident oil experts don't think much of it,lol
My wifes 6.4 runs better on Redline 5W-30 and a Royal Purple 20-820 filter then it did on 0W-40 Pup and the Mopar SRT filter,just tossing that idea at you.

I wanted to post this in a new thread for those who are interested in a 6.2 Hellcat or Demon swap on their Ram specifically 1500. The long block came in today. I just wanted to get it the garage and on the stand. Tomorrow I’ll start putting the 5.7 parts on it and we'll see how it goes. I can't wait to get her running.

My truck outruns Hellcats pretty easily to the 1,000ft mark,with no tailgate on it.Put enough tire under the trucks and they'll hook pretty good,especially the regular cab shortboxes,as they transfer weight better then the longer wheelbase trucks do.

STP = "Stay Together Please". Used that mix, plus a little xmission fluid, since that stuff was about 50% detergent to help clean things up after a rebuild.

Never had an engine come apart after a rebuild and my main rebuilds were 440's and 426 Hemis..

Trust me, this was unexpected, costly, a waste of my time and a pain in my A$$. I was completely happy with the 5.7. When looking at my options, this seemed to be the best choice with the add ons and time that I have. I'm going to have to be disciplined on my driving habits until the rest of the drive train is beefed up. I could have easily done that before the spring failed on the 5.7 had this not happened.

I also built one each of those. The 440 ended up at 454,but still. Good engines.

Well Crap!! While torquing down the last torque converter bolt, this happened... It seems like you should not reuse the bolts but replace them. I had to pull the transmission and transfer case, remove the converter just to get this sheared bolt out. Took about 6 hrs to pull and put the transmission back in. That and Mothers Day (I was not about to touch the Ram lol) put me 2 days behind schedule.


Anyways the intake plates are well made and are what seems to be the trick to make the swap possible. I bought new o-rings for the Whipple and changed the blower oil while I was at it. The hard part should be done and reassembling can continue.

I was able to complete the Ram this past Saturday. I reworked the crank case ventilation a bit and put an inline restrictor on the PVC side with the 2 catch cans in series. Hopefully this will eliminate the oil getting into the blower. I pulled a vacuum, tested, added Freon to the AC system after connecting the compressor and she's cooling great. I modified the T-stat and put the original electric fan back in but I want know the full effect until I get a new shroud. The new tune from Ryan was uploaded and after checking everything out several times, I fired her up for the first time.


I sent my tuner (Ryan) three scans and after reviewing them, he said everything looked great and to send in a WOT scan. I let him know that I wanted to put at least 500 break in miles on her (I'll have that by this Friday) before send him that scan. This thing is a beast. Tons of low end torque. The throttle response with the Supercharge kicking in is a lot smoother than before.

Bottom line is the swap works for any induction application, other performance parts and a tune. The larger crank bolt and oil filter nipple was the only 2 item that are needed. All other accessories bolt right up with the plates that come with the long block. I'll be trying to take it easy on her until the upgrade on the Transmission, Transfer case and 8 rib pulley kits with a smaller blower pulley to increase the boost a bit. It will be a while before that happen, I got to get the $$ together.

While continuing remote tuning, it was noticed a few weeks back that the #2 was misfiring quite a bit. I did several tests and finally found the cause. When I swapped #2 injector with #4, and the misfire followed. I ordered some FIC 1000 cc injectors that I hope will get here before this weekend so I can change them out and finish out the tuning. Ryan’s on his game and has already sent me a rewrite for the injectors when I install them. I'm wondering if there are any expected gains with the current pulley set up which is yielding about 7.6+PSI. I plan on changing the setup later to get 14+psi and these will support it.
