Problem 1: I want to drive my truck MORE!
Problem 2: I want to mod my truck MORE!

Seriously though, I installed the 87 Octane tune and was hearing some ping at WOT on the high end of the RPM band just before it shifted to 2nd. I figured it was due to the octane rating of the gas I was using. So, I drove the hell outta my truck and emptied that tank and filled up with 93 Octane V-Power from Shell. I then installed the 93 Octane tune and I am still hearing a little bit of ping at WOT at the high end of the RPM band just before it shifts to 2nd.

What gives?

Am I missing something or is this something that can be adjusted within the tune. Maybe something Hemifever can "tune away"? I have heard that this may be caused by "deposits" that have built up because when the truck was stock tuned, it was never revved that high before. Now, to me this sounded like some **** but I don't know enough to argue the point. I also heard that you have to put some time on the clock so that things kind of work themselves out but again, I have no way to argue the point. Could someone gimme some words of wisdom?

How many miles are on your truck? And exactly how much 93 octane gas did you get in it? If it wasn't real empty then your octane is still probably lower than you may think. Try a couple tanks on it before you actually have a "full" tank of 93. Also may try some octane booster til that happens (although there is some speculation on their effectiveness). Also how many miles are on your spark plugs? I had a GMC one time that pinged with the performance tune and stopped that immediately after changing old plugs. Same tank of gas etc. So it could help? And be careful driving the crap out of it with it pinging to get rid of gas haha. I bet another more knowledgeable person will chime in and help you out soon.

On edit: I JUST saw the other thread so nevermind.........

I have 46000 on the truck. Original plugs to my knowledge. I bought it a year ago at 31000. So I would imagine it is probably due for plugs. (Btw, Not a job that I want to do) As far as driving the hell out of it, I kept my foot out of it because the pinging makes me nervous. I just put some miles on it to burn the gas off. When I put the 93 in I had less than 1/8th of a tank left. The gas light was just about to come on.

Changing plugs isn't too bad. Just a little time consuming the first time you do it. Cost too much to have someone do it for ya. That's why I do it myself. lol

I had the ping also with the 93 tune and I was putting 93 in. I got rid of the ping by putting in the 91 tune and still using the 93 octane gas in. I doubt there was a real big noticeable difference between the 2 tunes. The Hemi is still a beast over a non tuned Hemi.

I know the 87 and 93 are night and day different. I'd hate to drop back to 91 and lose power. The 93 has me spoiled. lol. the ping really scares me though. lol

im sure a catch can will help but money is tight now for me so its the best I can do. I didn't notice any real difference between 93 & 91. I never tried the 87 setting.

I usually run the next lower octane than what the tune calls for. Especially with the canned tunes since they're a general tune. Hemifever can dial it in and eliminate the pinging do you can run 93 in the 93 tune

I pit a TB, CAI and trinity all at once..... I couldn't tell a difference at all. Maybe its me, more than likely its the fact its still a slow 14 sec truck at best.

Everything is slow compared to the bike, hell, id probably think the Z06 (which I shoulda bought) is slow stock.

Guess ill never be fully happy unless im on two wheels!
