Hi Guys... I tried searching but couldn't quite find this answer. I've been looking at a new 2018 Laramie 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi (will be trading/selling a 2012 3500 CTD). Saw a deal on a 2015 Longhorn with super low miles that has all the features that I was looking for (and a few more). I'm wondering what little tweaks/improvements have been made between the 2015 model year and 2018? If the differences are minimal, then the slightly used might be worth it. Thanks in advance for any info you can share.

The difference is very minimal
The biggest difference is gonna be warranty and rebates on the 18. But does the 18 have ALL the options that you want?

^ so what’s the price of the two trucks you are looking at?
The Apr difference could easily make the 2015 cost more in the end since there is a 4 year difference.
As stated- WAIT for the 8 speed.. remember 10k Back of msrp all day.

Yeah, pretty minimal changes between 15 and 18. To me the biggest downside of the 15 would be lack of warranty. You'll have no bumper to bumper and, depending on the in-service date, +/- a year of power train coverage. I just can't imagine a truck being discounted enough to make that worthwhile.

Agreed, go new. Not many differences but having a full warranty makes the 18 worth it in my opinion. I think mad dog may have posted before one of the years has a piston issue? I believe His engine was replaced under warranty because of that but I cannot remember. Something to look into anyway

The next gen may be a good decision but I don't like buying first model year vehicles. Probably will be ok but you never know.

Heck my 17 has had a ton of recalls on it and the 4th gen has been out for awhile now.

i traded a 16 2500 with the 6.4 for a 18 2500 with the cummins and manual trans. aside from the powerplant and trans, there is no difference between 16 and 18. cheers!

Agreed on shying away from the first year model. I thought it was a myth about working the “bugs out” and bought a first year 2015 mdx. That thing was in the shop more than on the road. Not only that but when it was time to sell it, it was not worth what it should have been.

Thanks for the input... and I think you are all right about going new. Now I just need to decide if I can live without a long bed... and if so, probly go with the mega cab. I've noticed that the folding back seat on the crew cab doesn't have an option for storage underneath like my '12 does.

Buy the new one, the difference in interest rates alone will make the new model cheaper by the monthly payment. That and the fact you get fresh warranties makes the new one alot more value for your dollar.

I agree with everyone saying go new. It's a pain but go to 2 or 3 different dealers and see who gives you the best deal. The new 8 speed will be a huge difference in capability and driveability.

The 2018 and 19 have extra security in the electronics which will require you to by a bypass harness/adapter if you want to make certain changes with AlfaOBD or the Tazer. The first place most people run into this is when moving to a different size tire and wanting to adjust the TPMS to be calibrated with the new tires.
