Can anyone supply a DIY on spark plug replacements on the 4.7, as well as an ATF flush? I would like to try this soon.

YouTube both of them. I've never done any engine work prior to owning this truck and now can do both!

Yeah that's all I plan on doing. I'll do the plugs and ATF over spring break next month.

Spark plugs are straight forward on our engines...10mm socket to take the coil boot off, then a 5/8 spark plug socket to get the spark plug out.

I unhook the coil pack, then use the 10mm socket to remove the nut that holds the coil pack on, set the coil pack on the cowl for the time being, then remove spark plug, install new spark plug, then clean the dirt off the O rings on the coil pack boot, install it, tighten down the nut and plug it back into the harness.

The only difficult one, is the passenger side rear, but only bacause you need to practically lay across the engine to even see the damn thing.

Alright thanks, and can I just pick up the right spark plugs at advanced auto or pepboys? I'll just make sure I check the manual so I get the correct ones.

Yes sir, Where I live here I have to buy the Champions at NAPA...cause nobody else carries them, they're NAPA part number CHA 439. Advance carries the NGK V Power plugs, which are a little better than the Champions, they're part number ZFR6F-11G and are about $0.40 more per plug than the Champions, but are a little better.

Sounds good to me. Thanks again - I will have to refer back to this thread when I get ready to do them!

Ya, they both have the 545RFE so it's pretty much exactly the same.

Not entirely true...even thought the service is the same, it isnt the same transmission. The 02 model 3.7 and 4.7 used the 45RFE, they didn't start using the 545RFE until the 2003 model year.

Well I was close! Haha but I doubt that the transmission is that much different, nonetheless the servicing.

the only difference between the 45RFE and the 545RFE is the tuning.

I've heard this, but I believe the internals are different. Yeah, a 45RFE can be flashed, but from what I hear, even with the flash you wont get the 0.67:1 5th gear ratio, it stays at the 45RFE 4th gear ratio of 0.75:1

well, i guess we can settle on, for the purposes of a fluid/filter change they are identical. and then were both a little correct i guess.

Anyone know what type of filter I should be looking at for a replacement? I have no clue what it looks like or a decent brand haha
