I've looked in my manual but it doesn't seem to indicate how to use this function.

I basically do NOT want pop-ups and notifications (audio and pop up on screen) that I have text messages or phone calls incoming. I don't want to be distracted or have my music interrupted.

I went into the Do Not Disturb menu but it appears that all you can do is set it so that it sends a text back saying something like "I'm busy right now and will respond shortly" but it still pops up on screen when I get a call or text, and it still interrupts the music and says "Text message from ***" or an incoming call rings and I have to press the screen to cancel it.

Airplane mode will turn off all signals to your phone. So your phone won't even receive the calls/messages, but it also won't connect to your truck. So....kinda works? If you're like my wife, you'll turn on airplane mode so that you don't get distracted, then spend the next week wondering why no one has tried to reach you because you forgot to turn it off.

No idea on DND.

Turn the phone and text messages off in the phone under the Bluetooth connections. Also need to disable permissions in AndroidAuto or CarPlay to allow notifications for phone/texts.

Thank you - will try this. I'm not using Android Auto, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I swear, it's like "they" are wanting you to constantly be looking at your phone, texts, etc. all the time, even while driving. Idiocy.

It's completely possible with AndroidAuto or CarPlay to text and make phone calls without ever looking at or touching your phone (provided there's no pictures involved). Either AA or CP can use all voice commands to call and/or text.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned and don't feel the need to engage with anyone (text or phone) while I'm operating a 4 wheel harbinger of death if I get distracted or don't react in time to the idiocy of everyone else on the road. I work in an ER and see WAY too much death and serious injury as a result of way too many people driving distracted. Its heart-breaking.

Sadly it's true that's way to many distracted drivers on the roads, see it every day. People stuck in their own little world not caring about what's going on around them.
Being able to talk and text without touching anything other than the steering wheel is some people's only option to possibly prioritize driving first. Unfortunately way too many people won't even connect their phone to the vehicle, even in some of the most technologically advanced vehicles.

Yeah, that's a truth - and sad because that is the WORST way of doing it.
