Any codes? by struggled to fire, what exactly was it doing? Could you hear ignition, like it was trying to start but it's out of gas, or it just took a long time then started normally?

I have been having a similar issue recently. Some times it will take a full 6 to 7 seconds for engine to start. Definitely not a fuel pump issue because I can smell the gas. Maybe ignition related? Curious if others have had this issue.

It can still be a fuel pump issue even if you smell the gas. They need fuel pressure, not just fuel. If the pump is not creating adequate pressure, then there can be issues associated with that. The only way to know would be to use a fuel pressure gauge to get a reading KOEO, and then at idle, then under load.

Ignition problem is possible as well, though not in the conventional sense. Extended cranking time can usually be attributed to either fuel pressure, or a crank or cam sensor problem.

+1 on a possible Fuel Pump.

Also make sure you check the grounds to the chassis and leads in and out of the IPDM (fuse box under the hood on the driver side).

Faulty grounds or power leads could impair sensor readings as well as firing signals from the PCM to the coil packs.

Just another thought.
