Drain Plug magnet?

Thinking about getting a new drain plug for easy oil changes.

Does our OEM one have a magnet? I can’t remember last time I changed it if it did or not. I know some vehicles come stock with it now or like Tranny’s they have one inside the actual pan.

Curious if I buy an easy release valve plug, that I’ll lose that important function (if it exists). Not sure if there’s a company who makes a magnetic and quick release flow plug.

No one that I’m aware of that makes a quick drain with a magnet. Get the fumoto drain plug. When ya drain the oil hold a magnet in the oil and it’ll tell ya what ya need to know.

No one that I’m aware of that makes a quick drain with a magnet. Get the fumoto drain plug. When ya drain the oil hold a magnet in the oil and it’ll tell ya what ya need to know.

Agreed that’ll tell me what I’m looking for, but if the scraps are always floating around in the pan then surely they can work their way back into the engine, that’s why I was hoping to have an embedded magnet design.

Does our OEM plug have magnet?

Pretty sure mine didn’t have a magnet. I put in the fumoto valve. If you want a magnet; they make a magnet that wraps around your oil filter.

Eh I’ve read bad things about magnets on oil filters. Best thing is drain pan magnet since that’s essentially the last spot they’d sit. Just wasn’t sure if we had one or not.

I just stumbled across them. Hadn’t researched them. I read a good oil report online and this particular engineer likes them and uses them. So I’m curious now what the bad aspect(s) are...mmm

Id be curious what some mechanics on here do...if they are using a drain valve: using a magnet? Why didn’t cummins engineers put one in/on pan (assuming there isn’t)....etc. wonder why all oil drain valves don’t have a magnet? Mmmm damn it those questions cost me hours of google searching lol

Attach a removable magnet to the pan near the drain. When changing oil remove the magnet to release any particles and they will flow out with the old oil.

I'm betting the OEM is non-mag stainless so you'd have to adhere a magnet.

Otherwise, find the thread diameter/pitch and purchase an aftermarket plug that has a magnet integrated.

IMHO the oil filter is all you need to catch micro metal particles, and no, the OEM plug is not magnetic. Just relax and drive the truck, and change the oil and filter at the recommended intervals. Also don't put magnets on the filter. You'd just cause micro particles of ferrous metal to stick to the side or end, instead of being embedded in the filtering material, as it's designed to do. Maybe use the magnets to post notes on your fridge reminding you to change the oil and filter.

Magnets in a transmission pan, however, make sense because it's fluid is inside for 60-100k miles.In fact my old Ford F150 had an inline "Magnafine" filter installed at the dealer on the cooler return line, and I changed it a few times. It really seemed to help keep the fluid clean.

I’m leaving mine as is. Good point on the trans though. I’m not a fan of the internal filter. Wish Aisin has the external spin on like my Allison. Be much easier!

Yes, but with that setup they couldn't charge you an arm & a leg for a filter change......
