I am looking for a compatible, newer truck that would have a bed liner that would work on my 8' bed on a 1986 Power Ram, the manufacturers do not go back that far

You will have to find used, or see if anyone still makes the 72-93 dodge application.

The closest near-fit I have tried is 80-97 Ford, however the dodge wheel wells are too tall. They can either be beaten-in or tastefully sectioned shorter.

Fwiw, newer trucks seem to have a narrower tailgate opening (as a trend).

We used to make all out bed liners out of 3/4" plywood. Protected the bed way better than the flimsy plastic drop ins and very easy to fab up.

Here is the floor section. If you want the wheel wells and sides covered just add the pieces to do that.

If you are only worried about the floor bed a buy a rubber bed/stall mat from a farm supply. That is what I use on my 1986 W250.

Even with the 3/4" bed mat, I found that rock (the largest I can load by hand) will washboard the bed i.e. make ruts between the cross bars.

seems fishy

That means you must be able to pick up some big Heavy, rocks
