I can't get the courage to get rid of the tail pipes lol

I don't want to spend the money to get a new rear bumper (painted too) otherwise I'd have a post-axle dump. Stupid "Sport Appearance" rear bumper.:roflsquared:

Would it make any sense to cut the exhaust and dump it right before the axle with the stock muffler? I still have my stock exhaust on and am planning to upgrade to an aero or magnaflow in the summer but was wondering if I cut the tailpipe/resonator off and put a turndown on it after the stock muffler would I get a little more aggressive tone?

Sorry for the thread jack but its kinda related...?

Well I guess it's worth a shot, and then it would be up under the truck and not stickin out like the stock pipes do

I like my thrush welded (chambered) muffler. SI/ DO

it does drone, but it is dumped right under the extcab

I plan to run some pipe back near the axle.

I looked under there today and it appears that the tailpipe section is clamped to the muffler from the factory so I'm gonna pick up a 3" turndown this weekend and give it a try!

Ok good to know before I waste my time. LOL. What about cutting it off right before the factory muffler and dumping it there while leaving that first smaller muffler? It looks like there is 3 mufflers under there. A smaller one right after the Y-pipe, that huge beast one under the bed, and then the resonator. Is that right?

if you cut the HUGE one and the resonator, your truck will sound like a racecar lol but it was too loud for me so i got my super 44!

Yes, DON'T cut off the big one without replacing it. I ran a cutout for a year (took it off to pass CA smog) and I saved myself from a few loud exhaust tickets by flipping it closed quickly. I would have the most massive headache if I just cut that thing off.

As for wasting your time, not you wont be. I met another bee who was making a cross country journey and his exhaust sounded pretty BA and I asked what muffler he was running. Ends up he just cut the resonator off and it gave it a nice muscle sound.

I say go for it. It's free right? And I'm not sure what the 3 mufflers your talking about are. There's only the big muffler and the resonator after the y-pipe, at least on my truck that's how it came stock.

Thanks for the advice you guys. I'll leave the huge muffler and just pull off the tail pipe and put a turn down in there.

Rumble Bee, on my truck there looks to be a resonator right after the Y-pipe, then the huge muffler, and a smaller resonator after the axle in the tail pipe section. That last smaller one is the one I'll be removing.

Here's a pic of each one of the mufflers/resonators... You can see the clamp i'm talking about after the mega muffler.
