This forum is VERY Hemi biased, you're going to get a lot of "NO" votes
I love mine. If you drive a lot of miles and/or tow a lot the Hemi can't get anywhere near the fuel economy.

If you are considering it, the only question is what problem are you trying to solve. Payload capacity takes a big hit of almost 300 pounds, so if you are aiming to maximize towing through the diesel you will most likely exceed your payload long before you hit your trailer towing max weight. And the $5k premium for the engine is another bite. Resale will be tough. You could get a 2500 and really tow better. But again it really depends on what you want to do. Get the right tool for the job, depending on your circumstance this might be the right truck for you. Good luck.

The 2nd gen ED has a pretty bad reliability record. I know 3 guys IRL that owned one, and all 3 have had emissions repairs on them. My brother's was covered under warranty, one of the others spent 6000 out of pocket before dumping the truck.

They also have crank bearing issues.

I'd run from them.

The jury is still out as to whether the 3rd gen ED found in 2019+ 5th gen trucks is any better. Time will tell.

DITTO all above responses. If U do a lot of small to mid range towing and work the ED as a Work truck, but nothing way over truck capabilities, may be OK. If a Grocery Getter (GG), no way. I had a 2nd Gen ED with no issues, but I went to the Hemi due to 2nd Gen issues that I did not have but did not want to roll the dice, and I was not working the truck as intended nor needed the truck for any major towing.

OP may want to research reliability on the 3rd Gen ED's as some things were done to move EGR and such and allegedly improve reliability.

Personally, if I were ever to get an Ecodiesel I would probably lease it. That way you have full warranty while you're making payments. JMO

IMO diesels are more expensive than gas in terms of repairs/maintenance. I know the ED MPG is a huge plus but also consider the more expensive repair bills down the road and the hit you'll take on the resale vs a hemi.

If you're looking at one just for the towing benefit I'd say no way. If you don't tow much, plan on trading it in a few years and looking for MPG then go for it.

A lot depends how you intend to use the truck. As a second car with occasional hauling, then yes I think it would work fabulously. If you want a heavy hauler, then no, it won't do the job. It all comes down to usage.

So what it will be for is towing our RV a few (6-7 trips a year) my pentastar is doing the job. I just feel it is working too hard. Other than that we put on 10,000 mi. a year , semi retired.
If your TT is small enough the V6 will pull it you'll love the torque the Eco diesel has. 480 lb-ft of torque is a lot more than my Hemi 6.4L has. Not saying it'll pull like the 6.4L but torque does matter. Sounds like Eco diesel would be a solid choice for you.
