Well I have been slowly adding some goodies to my truck. I recently just talked to Matt from Moes Performance an got the part number for the TYC electric fan an ordered it. The removal of the old parts was a breeze. Although after taking all my parts off the truck I opened up the new fan only to find that one of the mounting brackets was broke. So I am going to fix it myself an put the new fan on tomorrow. I was wondering if anybody wired in a side direct switch so they can also turn on the fan whenever they want?

You can use a diablo tuner (not sure about others) to change when it comes on (what temp). Thats what I use although its not a must.

TYC efan is a direct replacement for your stock efan/fan clutch (its shrouded). To wire up a direct switch you will either need to make a new harness with factory plugs or cut up the existing harness.

Also, if a mounting tab was broken on arrival, why not get it replaced? They should cross ship the part. I purchased one on Amazon and it had a broken tab as well. Got it replaced.

Only reason I am not getting a new one is because I called the company an they told me I wouldn't have a new one till Friday a the earliest. I actually fixed it today during work an it will actually be stronger than what it was from the factory. An only reason I was wondering about wiring in a side toggle is because I drag race with it an would like to be able to run the fan while I am sitting in line without the truck being on.

Those broken tabs are the exact reason why we do not sell the TYC fan anymore. Its a very cheap part which is nice, but 6 out of 10 would come in with broken tabs every time we ordered these. The part is good, but they need a few lessons on packing.

In the DIY thread I couldn't find any reports on mileage improvements, or performance when towing, etc. Anybody have any updates they could throw in here? I am thinking about doing this, but want to know how worthwhile it is.

You wont see any mileage gains. Im still not sure why people are still fighting for gas mileage. If you drove EXACTLY the same everytime and took the same exact route, then I could see you POSSIBLY gaining a few tenths in gas mileage.

Performance does not equate to mileage. Dont you think that if Chrysler thought they could eek out 1 or 2mpg more just by using a shrouded e-fan they would have done it? Marketing alone would get them more sales of that kind of mileage gain.

All that happens is less drag on the motor and a little bit better response on the bottom end. Its not an earth shattering change.

Yeah, as soon as I seen the broken tab I said to myself that is exactly what he was talking about on the phone. So I cut a piece out of metal to be the exact fit of the broken tab, J&B welded the broken piece on then laid the metal piece on top of it an put more J&B weld on top of that an made it stronger than factory.
