My engine fan runs randomly even when the engine is cold. Dealer says PCM is turning it on and that RAM is working on a fix. Anyone else have this issue or heard of it? Not sure I believe anything the dealer tells me. I have a 2019 2500. I bought it in December and it's always had this issue. Freaking annoying!

I have a 19 2500 an I wish mine ran more to pull air through the cooling system. Tranny seems to over heat too easy when I'm backing the camper up the hill when I'm parking it at the house.
At first even when i was not backing the camper up the fan did seem to run a lot when I first bought it but not anymore. Not sure if I don't notice it as much or if it's just not running that much.

Truck won't be due for service until sometime next month. I'll ask them about it at that time then let you know

Can you confirm if this is a common problem? It's 20 degrees outside, truck is dead cold, why is my cooling fan running. Sounds like a turbine going down the freeway at 70mph.

I'm having the same issue. I've got 20k on my '19. At about 15k, the fan would randomly stay on for a trip to work about once a month. Obnoxiously loud, sounds like an airboat. Can't make a phone call over that racket. This past week, the fan has stayed on constantly every drive, has yet to go off. I also noticed my MPG has gone down. According to some reading I've done and talking to a diesel mechanic buddy of mine, it seems that it is probably a faulty fan clutch. I mentioned this to the service dept. at my dealer a month ago, and his exact words were "That's normal, its hot out." Unfortunately, NO, it is not normal, it is not supposed to do that. I'm taking my truck in tomorrow, and hopefully they can diagnose the problem since the fan is now stuck on all the time.

It is pretty disappointing to spend $60k of my hard earned money on a product and it doesn't work properly. I'll update this post when I get it back.

I'm curious do you guys have diesel or 6.4? Mine doesn't do that. It is sometimes extra loud for the first few gears when I leave the house. But I think that's normal.

I've got a diesel. From reading this forum, seems like its a random issue that has happened to both some gassers and diesels.

Took mine back into the dealer a couple of weeks ago. They drove it around while data logging what the ECM and other modules were doing. They told me everything is normal and that certain modules are calling for the fan to engage. They said in there Research RAM has removed a lot of the auxiliary fans and just use the engine fan. For example the AC uses the engine fan instead of an electric auxiliary fan. My fan runs a lot after a run and restart. They said that is the under the hood temp sensor calling for the fan. I have noticed mine running more with an increase in AC use. I have accepted the fact that this is normal. I don't like what RAM has done using the engine cooling fan for everything. Took a really quiet truck and made it loud. Mine was running more when I first bought it. It would run on the freeway at times for no reason. They found a TSB for the fan and it hasn't done it since. However it should not be running all the time. Sounds like your fan clutch is bad. Fan clutch will probably wear out faster with all the use.

28ft camper weighing around 6,800lbs an maybe a sloping hill that's 10yds long that ends with a more "lleveled" area about 20ft long. Over all from street to house it's 25 + or- yds. 3/4 of the spot is covered in 57 rock an I have to lock it into 4 low to back it up the hill to keep from spinning the tires 3ae36140dc930417920760c56a1a4f13.jpg

You guys complaining about electric fan noise should be the first in line at Tesla’s launch *****

boo hoo my heavy duty towing vehicle is being too proactive controlling its mechanical temperatures!

It’s not electric fan noise. It’s the mechanical fan. Legitimately sounds like a plane turbine as RPM’s increase. Mine does it on start every time. I like having a quiet truck. One reason I bought it.

x2. Can't even hear the motor anymore on mine, just a whirring fan noise. Mines going in for an oil change soon, others are saying fan clutches are going bad?

With the engine off and cold you should be able turn the fan by hand, if not the clutch is locked up.

My ‘16 hemi has this issue once in a while. Doesn't last very long though. Once I get the rpm’s up it usually goes right away.

So far mine is only on start up and beginning of driving til it usually shifts into 2nd or 3rd. Then shuts off and it’s normal. Pretty irritating if you ask me.

Do the Power Wagons have an E Fan as a Supplement ? Or is it Mechanical only ?

That is exactly what mine does. Its only done it a handful of times in 4 years, but its certainly done it.
