Hey everyone my name is Adam, I have a 03 and 04 Dodge ram both are 4.7 V8, I'm going to start using royal purple in them both, my question is how long can I run on RP? The 03 has a rebuilt engine in it and my 04 has a 140,000 miles on it.. My family is growing so I'm trying to do everything I can too keep the trucks running... Thank you all for the help..:sparta:

Well, the factory calls for 3,000 mile oil changes. I personally do 6,000 mile changes on my truck and my wife's Jeep. I use synthetic and no problems or sludge build up at 120,000+ on mine and 90,000 on her 3.7.

I would think you would be fine sticking with regular intervals. Factory says 3000, I go every 5,000 miles.

Just don't do what my girlfriend did....almost 9000 miles between changes. Good f**kin' thing she drives a Honda.

One thinng you want to really be careful of, is extending oil change intervals on an early 4.7. The early ones were prone to sludge build up, especially when they exceeded the 60K mile mark.

I've been working for an oil company for the last 13 years, and I NEVER tell anybody to exceed their manufactures specified drain intervals. It's cheap insurance to change your oil when the manufacturer says to do so.

For what it's worth, I use Castrol Synblend 5W30 and a Mopar filter.

I've been using castrol high milage on the 04 and the same that you use on the 03 since it has the rebuilt in it... I change them every 3000 but u think I could run it to 5000 that's as far as I'd go.. I'm going to do a tune up on the 04 the next oil change nd get seafoam nd flush it out...

The only way to accurately answer that question, would be for you to submit an oil sample to a qualified engine oil analysis lab, and have them break it down. Contrary to popular belief, that is the ONLY way to determine how your oil is breaking down.

This!

I would stick to the recommended interval unless you have an oil analysis done.

I know everyone has their preference, but I have always run Castrol oil in all of my vehicles with great results. A few of my vehicles have taken quit a bit of abuse (daily driver, and would hit the track on the weekends). Never an issue at any oil change.
