What’s best for more power without giving up mileage

Your post doesnt make sense. How can you expect to make more power without giving up mileage.

You make more power in an engine by feeding it MORE fuel and air.... To start with anyway.

Adding to the fact that once you have your truck tuned for more power, you will probably be driving the truck more aggressively..

that's why im asking, don't know a lot about mechanics, asking is there a way to get a little more hp and mileage ie.. exhaust upgrade or cold air induction or is it tic for tac

Do you like hearing intake noise? Do you like having your hood up while other people peer in and gawk? Get a CAI.

Do you like waking the neighbourhood? Do you like the sound the v8 makes as you fly up the on-ramp or rip past the Ford? Buy a new exhaust.

Want to save $$ on gas? Take the back road and set your cruise for 55. None of these mods will save fuel. Buy them cause you like them and want them. There’s nothing wrong with having a truck as an extension of your personality, all of us here do that to some level. And all of us here repeatedly stuff these things with gas....

@LeesEvoX is correct. Making more horsepower does require more fuel. But you can be more efficient if you improve the entire intake/combustion/exhaust cycle.

A lot of programmers increase fuel delivery to make power & it is beneficial in that it removes a lean burn condition which causes pre-detonation and knock. When that happens, the engine management system can pull reduce power to correct the situation. It won't add fuel which really is the solution to the lean burn/knock condition.

But look at the mods you listed. They work as a system. Not one of them alone really make a difference in fuel consumption or power increases. It's when you "bundle" those mods that they really begin to impact performance.

An internal combustion engine is just a big air pump. Now add a combustible fuel, better air flow in & out and some way to manage the fuel delivery and that air pump makes even more power.

cold air intake intake ===> fuel management (programmer) ===> free flowing exhaust equals more power

Just keep in mind though there are only a few ways to improve volumetric efficiency in a naturally aspirated engine (because that's what we are ultimately talking about right)?

While exhaust work obviously helps this. It is a fairly small increase.

On N/A engine you get the biggest gains for VE will come from larger intake/exhaust valves. And ported intakes. Along with probably the second biggest... Cam lift/duration and timing. But now you are going I to a different world lol.
(Best way to increase VE would be forced induction).

So. To try and help the OP out more. If I were you. I would look at getting the truck tuned. From the factory manufacturers tune these vehicles to operate in a multitude of different environments. This means they usually dont have a lot of timing, and tend to run a little. It rich on the air fuel mixture as a safety barrier for pre-detonation (as MADDOG said).

Give the truck to a tuner and they will lean this mixture out slightly, while increasing timing. You will also get asked what fuel you want to use. I.e 87,89,93 octane. They ask this because it will let them know just how aggressive they can get with timing.

This will increase the efficiency of your engine. But again. Will give you access to more power should you plant the gas pedal. And once you know that, you will ALWAYS be planting that pedal lol.

I had a 600hp giant turbo 4 banger before this truck. And. It never went anywhere at part throttle hahaha

I've installed a K&N induction system and a Borla attack 5 inch. I've gained at least 25 hp and have gained better fuel mileage using Wawa 87 gas. Of course when I jump on it, gas milage drops. I have a 2019 Laramie 1500.

well.. you THINK you've gained that much HP. lol.

A lot of times when people ask that type of question, they are really looking for more throttle response than actual hp gains (present gearheads excluded). Like many already said on here: you can't get hp gains without sacrificing mpg. More hp requires more energy, i.e. more gasoline usage. Sure, you can try to one-up the mopar engineers and find a more efficient way of burning the present gas usage. But that's a tricky road to meander....and you admitting not being mechanically inclined, not recommended.

The Pedal Commander sounds like it's exactly what will satisfy your needs for "more". I don't have any experience with it, but others on here do and seem to like the difference it makes in their current stock setup. Maybe someone can explain it better than me
