ok so I’m in extremely dust conditions. Like filter is dirty after 1 good run. Do I&now drop in filters catch enough? I’d like to wash em and not buy a bulk box of filter. Even two filters to rotate would be fine. Do you oil them or are they just washed with water and dried? Sorry I’ve always used stock air filter https://www.instagram.com/p/B06H0PIh0L5/?igshid=uzr1i4l6kq4q the one video is after I dropped it in the ground to release some dirt lol

Damn that's nasty. You would save a lot of money by using a washable filter but they do let more dirt through so I don't know if its worth the tradeoff. I hope your using the thicker 6.4/Ecodiesel filter at least anyway.

Didn't know there was a thicker one. Hmmmm interesting. I was thinking of buying 3 k&n so I could just swap em out and not wait to dry. I know it’s a filter so once it’s dirty it choke air off like an ac filter. Not sure anything getting past it but it’s dang sure gotta be choking air flow down.

K&N filters will allow more dirt to pass through as that's how they claim horsepower.

Check out green filters, just spray a cleaning solution on and let it soak for 15 minutes/rinse/dry overnight/re-oil. Takes 30 minutes of your time at whatever frequency you determine.

TBH, I would personally just blow light compressed air from the engine side out and re-use the dry WIX factory filter as a PM for your environment.

I like them. Followed 4 trucks down dusty roads for three days. Checked my intake tubes when I got home and they were dust free. So...

Check with these guys, they have a pretty decent selection of pre-filters.This isn't the one you need, this is just a link to the last one I bought from them. This particular one fits the Challengers with the shaker hood,or the Mopar cold air intake for the cars. But it'll get you to their site anyways. If they don't have anything listed on their site message or call Joseph, and he might look into making one for you.

That was a little over 1 week lol

Ouch. Damn. Likely going to be any answer will require you putting your hands on your filter every week or two.

Only thing I can think of is make a pouch in the engine bay, maybe have a few air entry ports you can put some type of pre filter to ensure air flow. Somethig like this. Or what about from inside the cab, maybe there is room under passengers side? Or standard water set up maybe use pre filter like they have on heaters that keep air flow? I'd get a uoa every once in a while, see how silicone is making your way into the engine. That would effect oil change interval as well.

Old heaters had a media that allowed great flow, but but it did allow some dust through. Onviously is allows small microns through with ease, but it will catch a lot of that sand. If you are thinking about going this route after everyone's posts, let me know, I will see if I can find the right one. It will be a pre filter that protect that filter from probably 90% of that dirt, but you will have to do some mods.

Thanks y’all  For now I’ve bought a couple extra filters and will swap em out. Looking over the great ideas. Luckily it’s not really a dd anymore so I’ll just suck up replacing filters till I figure out best route. I’ve dropped my oil change down to 3k using 5-30pup.

The heavy duty filter is like 3" thick where the standard filter is only 2".

Have you thought about a snorkel kit? Most think they are just for deep water fording, but if you look at pics of trucks in other dustier parts of the world you will see snorkels with the intake turn to the rear. This is so they can get air from up above the truck where the dust tends to be less. Our stock setup pulls air from around the fender area, which in on a dusty road is going to suck in a lot of dust. Even a ram air system would do better but only if its the lead vehicle. A snorkel will reach up out of the most turbulent high dust area and bring in cleaner air.

Yeah. I’ve considered a snorkel. I reallllllyyyy don’t like the looks. I’m swapping filters frequently right now. But it adds up lol

TomB is right, most guys think the factory CAI only pulls air from the top of the headlight, but it also pulls air from the high pressure area in front of the tire.If you look close at the plastic piece the airbox ties into on the fender, and follow it down,it's basically an open tube down towards the front side of the tire. You could probably cut down on some of the dirt the filter picks up,by plugging that bottom feed though, and then you're airbox would only get air from the top of the headlight.
