I've searched the forum, YouTube and Google trying to find answers to the followng:
1. There has to be a tool or trick to remove the fittings I encountered while dropping the gas tank on my 2014 Ram. Especially the ones with the "horseshoe" type clips.
2. Where does one get the replacement clips if needed. Fortunately I only broke one.
What a flipping HORRIBLE design. As is the fuel pump connector with redundant locks. I found out about the "secret" tab lock on the 7th video :banghead::favorites68:

I see kits on AMZ that appear to have the clips or ones that look very similar. I have one kit coming and will report back with my findings. Bot of these questions appear to be very common with no direct answers to either  Or am I not looking in the right places?
TIA

I hate the tools. They usually slip in and push things apret blah blah blah. Honestly every one I've used just doesn't work great. The fuel clips on our rams (or Atleast Mine) I usually use a 90° pick and push the bottoms up and slide the whole thing out. The old school metal ones the tools work good on though. In the environment I live in these fill with mud and dust and crap and Pushing on them isnt gonna do squat.

I have had good luck with Fastenal for different things, are these what you are looking for?

thanks, but no. See pic.
These are common among various manufacturers but I have read are different for FCA / Chrysler vehicles. NICE!!!! not only are they a PITA but we have to make them different and use them in totally inaccessible locations. But that's not all folks we also have different sizes  :favorites68::favorites68::favorites68:

This is the exact mentality I fought the 25 or so years I was in engineering :banghead::banghead:When I find a replacement clip and or removal solution I'll post back.

That is what I wound up using. Wouldn't be quite so bad if they were in open/accessible area. Would be nice if there was a source for info on how they come apart. I did find a video by Airtex fuel pumps that showed how to remove several different ones but not these SOB's.
The electrical connector was another fun one

Thanks and yes, They do look exactly like what I need but I've read the FCA/ chrysler ones are different  So I'm proceeding with a bit of caution. I did buy and assortment kit off AZ and dorman # 800-023. They LOOK the same but I have not been able to try them yet. Supposed to be getting snow so I have to get the tractor and blower ready :Frustrated:. Almost done with those so hope to get back to the truck try them soon.

Still wondering how one is supposed to get the flipping things off without breaking them.
Especially in the locations they are. Possibly they are meant to be replaceable but I've also read that the dealer doesn't sell just the clips, you have to buy the entire line.
BAD design IMO for several reasons.
Tanks to all that have replied and I will update as soon as I know if either of the above work as replacements
thanks to all that have replied

I found a video that indicated removing them makes them unusable again. I think because the clip gets inserted into the hose before the hose slides over the fitting that you are connecting to. It isn't like a normal clip or clamp that goes on after the hose is placed over the fitting.

Here is one other I found.

Tron, I owe you one :rolleyes::oops:. I watched that exact video but BLEW right by example #2 which is the exact clip / fitting I and MANY others are dealing with. I knew there had to be a way of removing it. OHH the hours that would have saved me.
MANY THANKS :waytogo:.
I hope to get to testing the replacement clips today or tomorrow and will report back on those.
Thank you again

on the clips I found the Dorman 800-023 white clips work well for the 1/4" vapor recovery at the filler neck. The black clips appeared too large for the fuel pump but I did not try them.
I also had this AMZ kit on hand and its black clips worked well on the fuel pump line at the sending unit. Amz KIT:cheers:

Also wanted to comment that in the video link posted by Tron, example #2 shows depressing the clip to release it. mine appear to be stuck. In talking with a friend that works on newer stuff he said he's had the same experience and normally has to use the pick approach unless the clips are new.

I'll be back with an update on the tank mount repair when i get a fricken moment

Those horseshoe-style fuel line clips can be a pain. A proper disconnect tool set helps a ton — the Lisle or OEMTools versions are solid. Replacement clips can usually be found online, or even included in universal kits. When reassembling, something like an EVIL ENERGY Push Lock Fitting setup can simplify future maintenance since it eliminates those fragile plastic clips entirely.

Just a thought…..,can you leave the fasteners connected and just make a nice square cut somewhere before the clip and splice the line at the cut with common hose clamps with a barbed connector? It will also make future repairs easier by avoiding these plastic clips.

Interesting problem. I routinely work on a line of vehicles that use Colder Products Corporation QD fittings between the fuel pump and FPR, with the pump outputting 100-110psi. The fittings are routinely separated and reconnected during service and the metal ones have been quite trouble free. If I ever have to address the FP on my Ram I’ll probably be doing as mdc1990zr1 suggested and cut the line and insert a CPC fitting using Oetiker crimp clamps. The OEM Ram design looks like a formula for guaranteed hassle and headache.

Best,
RI
