So I opted to have my local dealership do a flush and fill on my cooling system, cost was just under $300 in total. The service advisor came to me mid-way of the service and recommended a thermostat change at the same time. I asked what the additional charge would be and was quoted $255. What I don’t understand is you already have the hose off because you would’ve taken the thermostat out to do the flush and fill the coolant system is already empty. Why would you charge me $255 for a full service when the only thing extra that you would be doing is putting in a new thermostat. The hoses are already off. The thermostat housing is already disconnected. The system is already drained. The only additional work would be opening the box for the thermostat and installing a new gasket and then putting the thing back together and adding the required amount of coolant. I’ve never heard of a thermostat and gasket costing $255. It never fails but a lot of dealerships out there always want to upsell you.
