Just did this on my 2009 as I have the box out to replace the heater core and evaporator. You can see how dirty the evaporator is after 195,000 miles. I've seen worse. I got a K&N filter and the door off of Amazon. I recommend this update to anyone with one of these trucks as your A/C will suffer from the evaporator getting clogged up. I just used a box cutter with a new blade and it was easy. Of course a little more difficult if you're doing it in the truck but doesn't look too bad.
BTW, I work in the automotive industry and when cabin air filters first came out, the car companies started putting them in lots of vehicles. Then they stopped doing it so much because people would never change them. /then they'd bring their cars in for service for issues with the climate control. I bet most people still don't change them.

Nick,
Yea a lot easier with the box removed lol, But not too bad when it is in the truck ! Did mine I think 2017 and it catches a lot of crap from my Pine Trees with their needles :O
As you know for years we never had them and I never plugged a condenser but with the crap in my CAF filter I was lucky because of where I lived at the time,
I was in the HVAC business for over 45 years and amazing to see how nasty a house Af was after not being changed that year !SO can only imagine how nasty a Coil /Condenser could get
So the ones who say it is not worth it is taking a gamble whether they have problems later on w/o one ! Just my 2 cents /
