Ok, got a little delayed with the oil change. I finally made it today and drained the oil catch can too, I've attached a few pictures. My Mishimoto catch can is 7.5 ounces and it was a little over half full. What did you purchase and how did you mount it?

I sent you the pics of the installation, check them out, but if you go up in this same post you'll be able to see them

Damn. What was the mileage when you changed it? 3oz. of oil seems to be a lot for only +/- 4000 miles. I would not have thought a new truck would have that much blow-by.

Thanks for the update. I'll have to consider this in the future.

I was at 6373, and yes, it's actually plenty, but hopefully I'm catching at least a good amount of that before it turns into a nasty gunk inside my engine!!!

I'm at 6268 I think. This has sold me after seeing your results with nearly exact mileage and an identical powertrain combo. It may not be needed but it's a cheap addition that wont hurt a thing even if it doesn't help. Thanks for sharing your results.

Finally got my CC installed last week. Wanted to take more pictures but was running out of time. Hardest part was getting the original hose off and deciding where to mount the can.

I went with the Billet Tech can for the 3.6 Pentastar, not vehicle specific. Came with their fender mount bracket but I had no good place on the fender to mount it. I ended up drilling a hole in the bottom half of my airbox and securing it there. Put it in a good serviceable location where it's not too crowded.

I removed the intake tract from the TB and I did have some oil in the hose coming off the driver's side that connects before the TB. Tiny bit of oil had collected on the lowest portion of the elbow connector and TB itself. Considering a second can or trying to run both to the one can. Truck doesn't even have 3k miles on it yet.

Ok first dump and glad I checked it. Just under 300 miles since install and can was about half full. I drive 15 miles to work, idle it just enough to have rpms drop to normal and temps have been cold, into the negatives some.

I was pretty surprised how much was in the can. Truck has not even 3k miles. Glad I got this installed for sure.

I didn't realize what a complicated piece of abstract engineering artwork the actual PCV valve is on the Pentastar!

It rides over the end of the exhaust cam and has a centrifuge? Jeezus-H..

I've been following everything automotive online for years and have been an active BITOG member since 2003 so a catch can is not a new concept to me. I see it's value for a vehicle that can have issues with carbon build up. I'm not sure this is the case with the pentastar.

Regardless, it is pretty neat to catch that miracle whip of nastiness before it has to get combusted and plates out in the combustion chamber and emissions system.

Same concept as to why crazy expensive stationary or commercial power trains have catch cans, or applications where space, weight or the added cost isn't an issue like it is in an automobile.

Ok I am in the midst of doing this right now, I have a few questions.

1. The factory hose was a PITA to get off the valve itself. (I know, not a question)

2. Does anyone have a picture of the hose connection at the intake without the resonator on?

3. What has everyone done with the other hoses and wires that were clipped to the original hose to keep them from lying loose?

4. Not important unless I plan to permanently remove the resonator but where does the hose with the white clip on the resonator go? It was mentioned in an earlier post (#16) as if it went to the PCV valve but it doesn't.

1. The hose was a pain to get off!

2. I attached a picture, it's a SS from the second video I posted in this thread. I didn't have time to take some when I did my install. The pcv is the second hose back from the throttle body, the bigger of the two.

3. I clipped the wires and such back to the other hose that was routed in the same path, seemed to be sufficient.

4. The hose with the white clip is another type of breather hose, I didn't follow it back. I did have some oil in mine so it definitely redirects oil vapors back to the intake, but is not the pcv. I'm on the fence about a second cc. I did have some oil in the resonator and on the bottom lip of my throttle body.

Hope that helps some.

Yeah I got it figured out, I was just needing confirmation. Thanks.

As a side note, the PCV outlet was bigger (3/4") than the intake end (1/2").

I have a 2018 w/ 5,100 miles on mine and took it apart today and it is totally dry from the filter to the throttle body. No oil in the hoses, filter box or on the butterfly. However I did see something strange in one of the hoses. There is a hose with a 90 degree end on it that is connected to nothing, it is located at the front of the motor under the plastic engine cover. I started the engine and there is no vacuum to it. I looked at @KevinInVT pictures in post #52 and it is the last picture (covered over) directly under the hose clamp he added on the 1/2" hose going to the catch can.
Anyone have any idea what it's for or if it's supposed to connect to anything?20190310_122749.jpg
