Front diff play...??

So after about a month of trying to track down a rattle noise in the front end I think I’ve finally found it...

spent a bunch of time replacing brakes,sway bar links, new tires and a new passenger front axle as it snapped at the cv joint.

so now after finally having time to get under the truck and look around if found that I have play in where the front drivers axle goes into the tcase. I can hear it inside the cab when going over small bumps and when I turn the wheel slightly back and forth quickly. It is like the spline is moving with the suspension and rattling as it moves.

makes no noise any other time and 4x4 seems to work fine.

I took a video just need to find somewhere to upload it.

Axles don't go to the tcase. Do you mean the driveshaft that goes from the tcase to the front diff? Probably a bad cv joint in that driveshaft.

That’s the front diff. The splines are likely worn on the CV axle and shaft. Check the passenger side as well. There will be a little bit of play but it shouldn’t be excessive.

It will move in and out a little and wiggle. Scared me when I saw this but was informed this is normal by a couple
Members on here.

I figured this could be the case. I drove for a while with the busted cv joint but figured it would be okay.
