It's time to replace the fuel filter in my 2017 Ecodiesel and my truck has had the Z46 recall completed. Everything looks the same to me under the truck but the parts guy at my local dealer says the filter has changed and the old ones don't fit. New part number is apparently 68632011AA but is on backorder everywhere. If this is the required filter, what are we supposed to do while it is unavailable?

I'm not convinced it is a different filter, but hoping the experts here can help or give me the correct filter part number we are supposed to use now. Thanks!

On a different note, I just got the truck back after suffering from the tone wheel failure. Wasn't covered under warranty (8 years?) so I had to pay out of pocket. 94k miles on the truck. I wonder if RamCares might help.

AI says….(and we all know how AI must be believed)… “The search results indicate this is a specialized Mopar kit, often used during a specific recall procedure for the 3.0L diesel engine, rather than a standard, widely interchangeable fuel filter.”

My own search for an alternative finds that PN 68632011AA is a KIT….
“This kit is only for vehicles that have already had the Z46 safety recall completed. If your vehicle has not had this recall performed, the standard replacement filter is often part number 68235273AB or 68394482AB. Always verify fitment with your VIN at an Official Mopar Parts Site.”

The actual filter ELEMENT utilized in this “kit” is not identified.

For this round, I decided to let the dealer figure it out and swap the filter. Their parts guy was the only one in the know and found the right filter. For those interested, it is CSSMZ462AA. No idea what is different about it vs the old. Maybe higher micron rating? Would love to know.

Below is a photo of the filter, was surprised I could only find a photo of it on Ebay, also noticed on the box it shows it was made in Korea

Thank you for the info, I've been going round and round with FCA/RAM trying to get the replacement filter sourced, let's just say I'm probably on the blacklist. I have filed complaint with NHTSA and DOT. Will see what happens. I look forward to what the parts guy says when I give him this number vs 68632011AA. Thanks again.

Let's see if @AllMoparParts.com can shed some light on this elusive CSSMZ462AA part number and replacement parts going forward.

Interestingly enough, I was told this had to be changed every 5000-10000 miles is this true? I have an 2015 1500 Ram Long Horn Laramie Ecco diesel, will this part fit also?

An eco diesel fuel filter is to be replaced every 30k miles per the manufacturer. I do mine every 20k and the old ones always appear clean. Buy your diesel at a high volume, name brand, station and you'll be fine.

So this is what Mopar says on this

If Safety Recall Z46 has not been completed, use 68235275AB
If Safety Recall Z46 has been completed, use 68632011AA

CSSMZ462AA Filter would be the updated version that is used in the recall and would be the equivalent of 68632011AA, These are generally not to be sold retail by dealers.

Thanks Benny. Part number 68632011AA seems unavailable everywhere. My dealer had the CSSMZ462AA filter. I would love to know for sure what the difference is between the old and new filters. Also, would love to know when the 68632011AA filter will be available, especially for those that need to change their filter soon.

Yes they are probably pulling them for use in the recalls. I did not read all 50 pages of the recall to see if there are clues as to the filter differences but I can post the recall here if you would like.

Just ran into this issue for the first time and figured I’d post to let others know my experience. Dealer told me same thing today…my 2018 Ram Eco needs the new part number filter because it had the HPFP recall done. New filter is unobtainable and no idea when it will be available. I was told the old part number filter wouldn’t fit and parts counter refused to sell it to me (even though they had it in stock).

TLDR 68235275AB fits just fine and has worked just fine for the 40K miles since my Z46 recall was done.

I was skeptical of what the parts guy told me because my recall was done 2 years and 40K miles ago and this has never come up before so went home and looked at my records.

4/23/24 and 39,663 miles: Z46 recall done and CSSMZ462AA installed per invoice

11/3/24 and 49,670 miles: I performed routine service and replaced fuel filter with 68235275AB

3/22/25 and 59,563 miles: I performed routine service and replaced fuel filter with 68235275AB

10/11/25 and 69,088 miles: I performed routine service and replaced fuel filter with 68235275AB

Today I’m due for 80K mile service and first time this “new” filter is brought to my attention. Based on the above history I went back to the dealer and told them to sell me the 68235275AB. It required getting a manager involved and them putting a “note in my file” but I walked out of the dealer with a filter, installed it this afternoon.

Anyway, can’t comment on what the difference is between the two part numbers but the “old” one fits and works just fine. You might just have to fight for them to sell you one.
