Just to follow up on this:
I contacted FCA and told them about the issue, and that my local dealer has seen this problem a few times. I relayed that the service writer said "there is no fix for this because FCA hasn't created a ticket for it yet." The FCA Rep I was working with took the matter seriously, and created a customer complaint ticket.
My issue, other than just getting stuck occasionally, was that for an entire week I couldn't put more than 1.5 gallons in the tank before the nozzle would click off. I had gone to five different stations and had the same problem, so for a week I couldn't fill the tank. I also mentioned this forum and let the rep know that I'm not the only one who has had problems.
The FCA rep contacted a couple of dealers and found that this is a problem in a few areas. He contacted one dealer in San Diego that has seen this problem and has fixed it, using a newer part number.
The good news:
They are going to replace my fuel filler neck with the new part, and FCA is picking up the bill for this since it is a new truck and an ongoing problem. He did say normally I would have to pay and submit my repair to get reimbursed, but he is standing behind this and set it up with the dealer to replace it under warranty.
I called my friend at that dealership, and he said they have done a few of these and it solves the problem. He parroted what I was told by another service department: that the gas stations have had to upgrade their nozzles and it made filling the RAM trucks a problem, in addition to getting stuck. He's done a few of them himself, and will be replacing mine on Tuesday, all of this will be at no cost to me.
So there you have it.
