Gas tank bracket rusted out. Tank hanging down.

So, the bracket on the frame that holds up the gas tank rusted out and broke on my 2015. My gas tank was hanging down driving on the BQE in Queens. Not ideal situation. Got towed to a Mavis and they tied it up with ratchet straps so I could get back to NJ where I live.

My question is do I need to go to the Stealership to repair this? The guy at Mavis said a muffler shop because of the welding that is going to be involved. I think this is out of the Mr Tire, where I usually go, pay grade.

I would take it to the exhaust shop, and have them weld the bracket back on and replace the strap. They weld all the time under a vehicle, so this should be a piece of cake for them.

Since the vehicle is well out of warranty I definitely wouldn't take it to the dealership but would take it to an exhaust shop or a shop that does welding to have the strap fixed.

There was a letter sent out by FCA a few years ago extending the warranty for tank straps to 12 years unlimited miles for 2009-2018 Ram 1500's. The campaign number was X-75. This was not a recall. I suggest you contact the dealer to see if this affects your truck.

I have a 2015 ram 1500 bighorn. I was underneath the car in the last few days servicing the transmission, transfer case and front differential.

I noticed that one of the straps on the gasoline tank is hanging down. It is the one in the front. So far the one in the back is intact.

Has anyone gotten reimbursement for this repair?

The factory letter (see the link in the previous post/aboe) states to bring your Ram to the dealer for repair…. but if PREVIOUS to the issuance of that letter…an owner who has already paid for the repair will be reimbursed.

After installing a complete new front end (and an alignment), I brought the truck back to a local ram dealer to have the gas tank straps replaced

I picked it up today and they replaced both of them.
