That is excellent! Usually it takes a couple drive cycles to reset that gas cap message.

I had a gas cap message the other day, but someone forgot to put the gas cap on after getting gas. :emotions33: I have no idea who that was.....lol.

I have a 2017 bighorn and mine did that also. Found 2 ways to get it off. -1 turn key on 3 times quickly and shut off engine then flutter the gas peddle 3 times quickly and it should go out. Found that on google search. Or just remove the ground cable for a couple minutes and it will go out. It did come back on when on a short ride but next time I started the truck it went out on its own.

Hello friends! Came here just for this reason. Love the thread title, it truly is purgatory.
2014 Ram Big Horn 5.7L 80k miles
"gas cap light"
OBD codes P0455, P0456, P0457, P0441

Replaced Purge Valve Solenoid (under hood).
Replaced Leak Detection Pump aka Evap Valve (mounted on gas tank) Could they make that sumbich any harder to get to!
Even replaced gas cap!

Still throwing codes. Any suggestions what to do next (besides go to 'stealer' (dealer)?

By past experience, I only purchase Factory OEM sensors and EVAP Parts. I have found them on EBAY also in original unopened packaging !
I've used Dorman parts in the past and they work. If it were a really tough part to replace, I absolutely would go OEM. This wasn't too bad.

Lol. Nothing is more disappointing than firing it up and having that light come back on.

There was one more sensor I found that was under the fuel filler neck. Check that one. That was going to be the next one I'd try. Be sure to clear the codes and take it for a 15-minute ride with some expressway time.

Other than that, it could be a wiring or evap line problem. The harness on my ESIM line didn't look the greatest.

The evap hoses can come loose under the truck as well. Had a similar issue with my 04 & it was a evap hose had a hole rubbed in it. My state emissions inspection place doesn’t care how many dash lights are on , as long as the CEL is OFF. & the brakes work. TX.

Had squirrels chew and evap line on my 2005 Ram and 2 shops couldn't find it. I finally found it and replaced the line which had a quick disconnect above the gas tank which was between the bed and cab. Shop told me I needed to remove the bed to replace it. I managed to contort my hands and arms to get it.

It’s the ESIM I replaced mine, b to get to without moving the hewrsheild but can be done and it’s went away. Have gotten it twice recently. I blew in my purge so I knew it wasn’t that. Bet it’s the ESIM underneath.

This issue won't go away! It comes back right before state inspection too!

I have a 2013 Big Horn. Over a year ago I got the evap leak CEL / gas cap. I was able to resolve it by buying a new gas cap (at Autozone) and sanding the rust off the filler tube. It came back a few months later, but I sanded it down more and it went away. Last July I had the fuel tank straps replaced by a recall. Last month the CEL came back with an evap leak / gas cap. I took a look underneath and the fuel filler line was rusted pretty bad. Since it has obvious rust issues I replaced the fuel filler neck. I put all new water clamps on too. I reset the CEL with my ELM scanner and the codes went from "pending" to "historical." The CEL light is off, but the gas cap message still displays. I drove around for 45 minutes at different speeds. I heard some genius thought these codes best remain until the computer is certain the condition no longer exists. I thought about buying an OEM gas cap to rule that out, but the dealer wanted $58 for a gas cap! My state inspection is due again an although the CEL is gone the gas cap light is on.

Not sure if anyone else has gone though this. If the light doesn't go away soon, I will probably be forced to take it in. Thoughts?
eSIM pump generally the problem

Sometimes you can shake the ESIM, if it sounds like a loose part inside, it is BAD

The Purge Valve can be tested by Blowing in it, if air passes through, it is Bad

funny thing is, the above parts do not usually go bad, UNLESS the Fuel Tank is TOPPED off

Yeah. There was a metal part that was loose. You could tell by shaking it that it was no good. Additionally, my ESIM has a bunch of green corrosion on the metal pin and one pin rusted though.

Did changing that do the trick or are you still getting trouble codes?

Funny I came across this posting today.
On Sunday the 10th.i goto get gas and the pump says error on my card,I go get the attendant as it says,he runs everything again same as i did...tells me it's not the pump my card is bad...im like I highly doubt that as this has happened there before...so I left to the Home cheapo store next door...upon pulling into the parking lot guy comes up and tells me my gas door is open(with the cap hooked on it)and then to another station where it worked fine...with a frustrated attitude at the attendant I didn't even notice I left it that way. Weird thing is I didn't get anything on the dash telling something was amiss....I've seen it before but fixed it with a couple quick clicks of the cap i guess(at least that's the only thing I did and a several cycles of the key and it went away)
Is my system going hairwire here?

How far away was the next station? Maybe the truck didn't have time (or there's a delay) before registering a 'no-cap' situation?? Maybe one of those 'lucky flukes'. Glad it worked for ya.

Hey, at least the guy didnt' tell you there was also a pump handle and 8' of hose hanging on your filler tube!!! :D
