Is there a way to display gear indicator on the dash with the 8 speed ? I know on a ford if you tap +/- on gear shifter it will display gear position.

YES, in the Uconnect Display under settings, U go in and set it up to display. When I find out exactly where it is, I will come back in here and post. Not remember where in the menu's it is, lol.

NOTE: The Screen Setup feature can only be used while
the vehicle is in PARK.
Push and release the up or down arrow button until the
Screen Setup Menu Icon/Title is highlighted in the instrument
cluster display. Push and release the OK button to
enter the sub-menus and follow the prompts on the screen
as needed. The Screen Setup feature allows you to change
what information is displayed in the instrument cluster as
well as the location that information is displayed.

Mine says it right at the top center of the middle of the dash, switches from D to whatever gear when you hit the gear limiter buttons. Never had to mess with any settings.

The gear limit buttons are the magic trick. Press the down one to enter gear limit mode and the current gear shows at the top center of the instrument panel. Then press the up button till 8 is underlined and you have the transmission fully automatic and the gear displayed AND you just turned off MDS, which some don't want to do but it's actually the main reason I do this every time I shift into drive. It should be a simple programming change (hint RAM) to allow this to be set as the default mode, but unfortunately, it's not.

It would be nice to have a separate MDS off button and be able to see the gear the truck is in. I leave MDS on when on the highway but shut it off in town.

Yes, that would be a nice feature.
Still wish I could have the gear showing all the time without loosing MDS on the Highway to see the gear. In town MDS is annoying.

If you change default in the setup menu, will gear be displayed all the time, and MDS off or only way to turn it off is with gear +/- butons.

A by-product of adding a tuner! Enjoying that feature. I still find myself running the gears to 8 lol. Old habits…

That doesn't work (at least with the 2019 2500s) not sure if UConnect was 5 was changed to accommodate that function

If you hit the tow/haul button, that will turn off MDS also, correct?

Yes. And with my 6 speed, it also locks out 6th gear. Not sure if it locks out the upper gears of the 8 speed or not, but probably.
