My old ram has 3.92 gears and the new/used one I'm considering I believe has 3.21?
Can someone shed some light on the differences, are they noticeable? Jack

Maybe an idea of what truck you have now to the potential newer one?
If all that changing is the axle ratio, then the new truck will feel a bit sluggish compared to your old one. If the new one has an 8 spd transmission, the lower first gear will help with the off the line sluggishness, and the closer gear ratios will keep the engine in the power band better. If you plan on towing heavy you may want to keep looking for one with 3.92, but the 8spd w/3.21 will probably still do a better job than the 6spd w/3.92

You need damn near need 5:00:1 gears behind a 6 speed to match the torque multiplication of a 3.21 geared 8 speed. It's tough to beat the 4.71:1 first gear in the 8 speed,it's almost tractor geared in first, lol

Probably one of the best things FCA put the Ram trucks was this ZF 8spd trans. Most people don't understand gearing and it doesn't help that larger numbers is lower gearing.

Tons of people have the 3.21's and I don't think I've ever read a complaint. 3.92's are an obvious advantage if you're working at the limits (muscle truck or towing) but if that doesn't apply to you... well, like I said people just don't seem to complain about 3.21's.

Anyway what do I know? I have 3.55's :D

Towing Capacity is lower with the 3.21 axle ratio by about 2K lbs. If you plan on towing less than 8500 lbs you should be fine with the 3.21

OP--to answer your questions directly
Yes there is a noticeable difference, both in acceleration and towing capacity. 3.92's accelerate faster and tow more. Depending on how you're going to use your truck would determine which ratio would be best for you. Some people also report better mileage with the 3.21's.

I've had both. I noticed more difference in gas mileage than anything else. My 2015 with 3.21's averaged around 19 all day long where my current 17 model with 3.92s is permanently stuck on 17. Get the 3.92s and limited slip if you can.

Depends on how the truck was ordered. If a dealer ordered it originally theres a good chance it won't have the factory limited slip,as a lot of dealers order them in so they are a bit cheaper,as the majority of buyers don't know what a limited slip is,or actually need it.The limited slip is an option with any rear end ratio. I've seen several 3.92 geared trucks on dealer lots that don't have the limited slip

As a 3.21 owner i sure wish i had 3.92s. With the stock tires it was tolerable but when i threw on some 275-65-20E tires it killed it. Thing kicks down so much on the interstate i lock it in 7th sometimes. Yes i recalibrated the TCM and speedo for the tire size also before anyone says anything.

Yeap Zero problems. I tow in 6th as its not a overdrive gear, would not recommend towing in a overdrive gear no matter what gears you have.
