Can anyone give some advice on best launch set up for these 4th gens? Granted I have a crew cab with 22's right now, so I know I'm not gonna get any kind of extraordinary time.

Won't have to worry about much wheel spin, lost most of that with my 22's and there like 9.5 inches wide so lolz.

Should I manual shift, or auto shift. I have a 11' 5 speed, so do I have to worry about the 2nd prime?

This will be my first time ever at the track.

Leave off an idle, or try stalling up to about 1500rpms just moments before the green light. Start stalling it up too soon, and the computer will try to pull timing.

You can also remove your air filter to pick up a little extra time.

i always like staging first. it makes me feel like i am not under pressure. that helped me more than about anything.

What matt said. After you get out of second the truck is gonna feel slow if your running the quarter.

In my experience manual shifting vs auto shifting makes no difference. And if you manual shift you will have to deal with 2nd prime just like any other 03+ ram with the 545rfe/new 6 speed version. Just make sure to have traction control off

I can't remember if the guy was on this forum or another I use to go to but he ran all the time and said he would get his best times by running with a 1/4 tank of gas, starting off in 4x4 to prevent wheel spin then change to 2wd shortly after launching, he'd shift manually, and he'd turn traction control off and tow/haul mode on.

The only thing I most likely wouldn't do is the launching in 4wd then changing to 2wd...He did it and swore it helped a little but I'd be afraid of snapping something. Otherwise I have no personal racing experience yet, still have yet to go to the track.

This might actually help you out some, check out this guys page here, he's a dude I use to know on my old forum who drags an Indy Ram all the time. Everyone kept on asking him for tips on how to drag race so he added a page to his site for people who want to start drag racing out. A lot of people who read it then went to race said it helped out a lot.

That is really really good info! Prolly won't drag race with mud tires, but still :naughty:

When I've ran I do the burnout and then put it in manual and put it in 2 then take off once it shifts from first to second I put it in 3 which is second prime then as soon as it shifts into 3 I put it on 4 and leave it there but then again mine is a 2012 with a fake 6 speed so I'm not sure what the difference is

I ran my 07 Cummins on 37" Toyo Mud tires with over 1100rwtq and didnt spin at all. Use your 4wd, and you are good to go.

Trup, how did it go last night?

Did you spin in 2wd? Next time, drive around the water box, and then back up to where your rear tires just touch the water...then bump the gas to make it spin just a few times. Roll out of the water and do a quick burnout...then pull up to the staging lines. This should allow you to launch in 2wd without spinning.
