I have taken them off every truck I ever had . New 18 Tradesman 4x4 didn't come with any and found out fast that the ol girl and me both need them . Not like setting down into a Tacoma . I hope these 5 inchers aint too big looking .https://www.realtruck.com/aps-5-black-iboards/

Seems like there should be plenty to put a foot on without slipping off . The ol knees aint what they used to be and momma pie can trip over a chaulkline on a sidewalk so I figured I better get some that are plenty big enough to actually work for us old folks .

If you dislike the look you can always go with power deploy steps hides them when not in use and drops them when you open the door.

One of the 1st things that I did when I bought the truck was add 5" side steps. For us a necessary mod.

Congrats, even on my 17 RCSB, 2 wheel drive, I had to get steps for my wife and mom. I tried it without for 3 months, and ended up going with 4" westin tubulars. Glad I did. Makes it a lot easier for me to get in, also, and I'm 6'4".
