I installed a heated steering wheel for the audio controls when my truck was 6 months old. Didn’t plan on hooking up the heat but when a heated clockspring came up here I got it and started planning how to hook it up.
I decided to use a timer relay and installed a switch in the dash under the drivers side cubby next to my heated seat switch. My truck is a Tradesman so it does not have all the wiring to integrate these options into the CANBUS system and I have no desire to do it.
Anyway the heated steering wheel works great and I have already used it a few times this year. The heating element only draws about 3 amps and I fused the circuit appropriately. The timer shuts it off at 30 minutes in case I forget but it can be reset but a simple off/on of the switch.
I buried the control box I made under the center mini console during the center drawer installation project I did earlier.
It was worth it to hook up.

Can I ask which timed relay you used? I have the steering wheel installed, just didnt have the supporting wiring and switches. Didn't even think about a timed relay.
