I was looking for some help on changing my front bumper and found this place. Looks like a lot of traffic and knowledge, so here I am!

I need to replace my front bumper (2003 SLT Chrome) and looked under there last night. Wow, lots of bolts, but I read somewhere that it was a quick job.

I read the first 18 pages and did a search without finding anything. If someone can link me, or relay some knowledge on this, I would appreciate it. I don't want to remove more than is required.

Thank you quietpeen!

I am not normally this challenged, as I was restoring mopar muscle cars for many years. But heck, if I can get the accurate information before opening the tool box, it should go a lot smoother.

This truck is my new baby, it only has 30k miles, and I put a pretty good ding in the front bumper, it's first blemish.

I ordered a new bumper, that came in yestereday, and hopefully it is close to the OEM quality.

Hmm... I'm surprised more people have not commented on this. My dad helped me replace one on my old truck (2001) though. From what I remember...

Judging by your avatar picture, you've got fog lights. Disconnect the wiring for those. I think there are 4 mounting bolts (might be different for an 03) that holds the bumper to the truck frame on either side (someone correct me if i'm wrong). Loosen those and then I believe that should do the trick in getting it off. Your new bumper should be the same or close to it, so just put it back on the way you took the other off. If I had to do it again, i'd be giving myself some time to really look and see what connects to what and play around with it a bit.

Thanks DodgeGirl, I appreciate it. Yes, it has fog lights, and a kind of facia that is body color (black) across the top.

It looks like the mounting bolts to the frame would turn the bumper mostly loose, but then a lot of stuff will be going with the bumper. I guess that will just have to be that way, then transfer it all over when I get it off to the new bumper.

I am sure Saturday morning before it gets too hot and humid, once I get the air tools going, it won't be that big of a deal. I just thought I might find some quick and easy instructions, preventing me from having to get up and down too many times.

I know every bolt and their size on the old 70s A and B bodies, and I am kind of spoiled to that. :D

There should only be 4 bolts that attatch the bumper to the frame. The plug that allows you to disconnect the fog light harness is on the drivers side just below the drivers side headlight. Just unplug that harness, remove the 4 frame mount bolts, and pull it out. Very easy job.

Thanks, you are right sir! I couldn't stand having that new part laying there and my truck not looking right, so I jumped on it right after work.

I did it just a little different though, and took the 8 18 mm nuts off that attach the bumper to the bracket, they were going to have to come off anyway, this way the 4 frame bolts only had to be loosened for adjustment.

I think it was probably a little easier to hang this way, since I did it by myself. Also, I was able to do all but two bolts and the fog light plug from the top, with the hood open.

It took about 2 hours, as I had an air dam, top facia and a center facia all to transfer along with the fog lights. I think it was 5 10mm bolts, 8 torx, and 12 18 mm with those star retainers on the bolts holding them onto the bumper.

Thanks again to all that responded, I think I am going to hang around here if you all don't mind. :D
