It's probably just air causing the pressure to read high. The system should be evacuated, have leak detection dye put in, and recharged. Run it for a few days and then check for a leak with a black light. If you don't have a way to pull a vacuum on the system, you'll need a shop to do it for you.

Is your condensor fan turning? It should be on at any ac setting and if your little electric fan is out you wont get ac at idle and your compressor will keep cycling. This is a pretty common thing to go on these trucks i've found as mine is out also. There is a replacement motor you can put in the shroud.

Do you have it connected to the low side pressure? If you are onvthe high side it will always show over full

This is true if the engine is running and the compressor is engaged. With the system off, the pressures should equalize unless there is a blockage in the system.

Most recharge kits you get from a parts store will only fit on the low side port. You didn't have to force it over the port did you?

The low side is the smaller of the two A/C ports so you can't hook it up incorrectly.

Unfortunately, I do. It usually involves a customer that is dangerous at best with tools.

I see it happen a lot working at a parts store. Usually on $1000 cars with $6000 worth of rims...
