For those that have had the dealer "fix" there hemi tick, wether it be broken manifold bolts or other, has it been covered under warranty?

My truck is 2014 so it is still under the power train warranty but I am over the millage for the full warranty.

Thanks

A friend with a 2013 with 55K just got their Hemi tick fixed under the power train warranty with no cost.

What exactly mechanically is the tick? I seem to get it randomly sometimes and was going to try Royal Purple. My co-worker thought he had it lol but it was simple valve operation I am 99% sure. Mine actually gets a tick here and there and is loudest from the headers area. 304 stainless long tubes don't help with engine noise though...

We won’t know whether the repair is warrantable until proper diagnosis. To see what is covered under your Powertrain warranty please visit Ram Trucks Warranty - Pickup Trucks, Work Trucks & Vans. Thanks – Kevin T, Social Connect Team

If it's true mechanical failure causing the tick it should be covered under the 5 year 100k and if it's exhaust related I believe the emissions is 8 year 80k I'm not 100% on that.

Mechanical failure being broken lifter push rod exhaust bolt ect.

I know in early Hemi (2003,2004) there was some pretty major quality control issues. In those it was traced to out of spec push rods. Very common issues.

Also just as a noise in general; things like broke exhaust mainfold bolts, can cause a tick noise that sounds mechanical.
Also very common.

I just had mine in for tick. They replaced manifolds and had to extract broken bolts on both sides. Covered under my extended warranty. I have a 2013 big horn with 60k

My tick was the manifolds. Mine were replaced under warranty (approximately 43k miles), and I believe powertrain warranty covers the exhaust manifolds.

Had a 2008 that ticked, very loud on a cold winter morning. God I hated that damn tick. Had the manifold bolts and gaskets replaced.. Didn't help any still a Ickes. Truck ran like a champ though. Have a 2015 now. Hoping it never ticks lol.

I was reading a bit on this problem the other day on various forums out of curiosity. Vast majority reported that it was covered under powertrain but one person reported that dealer and RAM did not cover the bolts under powertrain. That was an outlier, however. Good luck.

Mine started doing it right after I crossed over my regular warranty but the dealer did it under the powertrain warranty. Same thing, mine was manifold bolts. What I'm curious about though is that yours is a 2014. I had heard that they started using better bolts in 2014 because of this, is that wrong?

Just an update. They said the bolts were not broken and when trying to reproduce the tick they could not, after two days of having the truck. The temp was very warm both days and that may have something to do with it since the tick was there all winter long and well, still there but not when at the dealer. The tech was sure it was the manifold (having had the same issue on his Ram) but could do nothing but document my file that I tried fixing the problem prior to my warranty expiring. Hopefully if the bolts do break down the road I can get it covered.

Even though the problem was not fixed the dealer and RamCares did all they could.

But did YOU hear it on the way to the dealer? Or shortly before? There's a reason why I put mine on YouTube, because those crooks LOVE to use the words "could not replicate the problem" which is dealer code for "we don't want to fix it for free so we'll lie and say it didn't happen after you dropped it off". I showed them my video recording, there was zero room for them to wiggle.

I had this happen in my previous 2011 back a couple of years ago. It was covered under the powertrain warranty. Its pretty obvious when it starts and seems to be much louder when its cold outside. Its a pretty common thing in Rams, it should have been a recall IMO. Cheap MFG bolts or poor design or both!

My muffler shop said they had only one bolt that broke but I cannot say for sure if they did it or it was that way. But mine is a 2012 and had 64k miles when my ARH long tubes were put on so I kinda avoided the manifold broken bolt issue. I used the fasteners ARH sends which I discovered Matt from Moe's uses as well so that made me feel a lot better lol! I thought about the stage 8 bolts in hindsight and asked around if I should and for me it wasn't deemed necessary. I mean my oil temp has never even been over 192 since I have had the truck, and it rarely has got over 188. Maybe that doesn't matter but I assume the beefier hardware is for those applications where engines are run under high stress getting on their hotter end of operating temp often like a race engine.

As far as I know , ARH uses grade 8 hardware for their applications. So rest assured you have ample hardware in your truck. That seems to be pretty low for your oil temps...... I was under the impression(not positive)we want our oil to get upwards of 212* to burn off any condensation in the oil... Mine stays around 206* until I'm getting on it, then it can jump up to 230* pretty quickly.
