Hi All,

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 5.7. I already blew up the first engine somewhere around 230,000. Replaced it with an engine from a 2013 i believe and it only had 66,000km, also got brand new OEM headers. Now my truck is at about 263,000 and Ive got the infamous hemi tick again.

The cost to fix it is crazy expensive and honestly I feel like its just going to come back one day again. Is there any other solution? (other than swapping in a completely different engine)

Thanks!

Read these threads (redline and lubegard) and notice poll results. Get a royal purple filter, and redline 5w30 if you can, lubegard biotech is a second choice. It isnt about the brands, it is about the science. Redline is the best shot at killing that tick, lubegard pretty good as well, look at poll %'s. Going into winter, in canada, you may chose to try 0w30 redline, t is very successful as well.

There are at least 3 different, mostly unrelated ticks that people refer to as "Hemi Tick" and only one of them is a death sentence.

Do you know which one you have?

So they say oh it’s just a hemi tick. Just bought a 2017 bighorn 1500 crew cab 88,000 miles while moving it to plow the dealership heard a “ hemi tick”. This is the service report there doing before I get it

Does the tick always happen or quiet down a little as it warms up? My neighbor is a service manager for the dealership I take my truck to (which is convenient because he takes my truck to the dealership for the required service!). I had a 2004 GMC Sierra with a 5.3 and it had a tick. He suggested looking at the manifold bolts. Sure enough 2 were sheared off. He then mentioned the 5.7 Hemi is susceptible to the same issue...

It is, mine has had the rear bolts break twice on the passenger side and now twice on the drivers side. The manifold has been replaced on the passenger side and so far it has held up but the drivers side is still broken and i'm looking at trying to get it fixed using the old manifold and having it shaved flat instead of replacing it with a new one. I love these trucks but this exhaust manifold issue is a real problem.
