Now that the warmer weather is here my thoughts are drifting to exterior mods for the truck.

But I have started to see advantages to my truck blending in.

Am I the one thinking stock might not be so bad?

All the extra money to make you more noticeable.... I guess it's worth it when you're not married.

One of the best and most tasteful and cheapest "mod" to make your truck stand out isn't a mod at all....its detailing. Keep it clean and shiny. It's not as fun though, haha.

Myself I tend to stick to add-ons that just help protect the truck's condition or improve its usefulness like .mud flaps, hood deflectors, heavy duty floor mats, etc. rather than for appearance only. I tend to keep my trucks for 4-6 years, so I see no value in spending thousands on appearance mods that, generally speaking, are actually going to hurt not help resale value.

But that's just me, and I totally get it when people like making modifications to their trucks to suit their taste, and make it a hobby to enjoy. I express my own tastes on my '64 Chevelle SS and leave my trucks mostly stock.

Agree with this personally. The other thing that makes a difference is color but that's hard to change.

Last night before dark I finished golf league and walking of the course I saw my Ram among a lot of other Silverados and Fords, mostly dark colors and tans. It's Michigan and there are a lot of trucks here. That White sum B Ram of mine just looked bigger and brighter than the others. It really stood out in the early evening sun.

This will probably be my last modded vehicle.

But I also plan on keeping this for a long time so the mods were worth it to me.

When it comes to appearance mods, I like to keep it simple with stance and wheels/tires. You can have a completely stock truck with a lift/drop kit and some nice wheels, and it will stand out in a crowd while still offering a performance benefit whether it is ground clearance to use offroad or better handling for the lowered guys.

Having said that, nothing wrong with leaving the appearance stock, but doing some upgrades under the hood to raise the fun factor a little ;)

I think one needs a bit more than wax to stand out if that becomes the goal...

In a 4 block radius of my house there are 10 white 2009-2016 quad and crew cab 4x4s .

Mine tends to be the dirtiest.

Its a vicious cycle. As soon as you say you are done modifying a vehicle, you get bored with it, trade it in on a new vehicle, and then start all over with the new upgrades. We just cant help ourselves.

It is!

I'd be so farther in life by now.

It's a horrible illness.

I like to enhance it to look like its factory but have the little design flaws or conflicts be fixed... The kind of modifications that most wouldn't even notice unless they know the type of vehicle.

Now lifted is a different story. just needs to look balanced with the tire/wheel side proportionate to the size and shape of the body and wheel wells. These 4th gens take really well to 37's and look good while the 3rd gens take well and look better with 35's...
But most importantly that is all part of the owners perspective and taste
Do to the truck what your taste is. doesn't matter what other like or standing out or blending in

There needs to be a support group for wives that cannot accept this. I get complacent when I'm "done" with my current vehicle and I'm shopping online for my next blank canvas :)

As stated earlier...my problem when I'm done modding something....the boredom sets in.

That's my issue right now. I love my ram....but I'm getting bored of it.

I'm much more into the subtle mods, then anything screaming, look at me and look at my truck.

One lesson I've quickly learned after spending this week pouring through APPEARANCE related mods on eBay: these companies are definitely under the impression that small painted ABS parts are the equivalent of solid gold judging by their prices. I was (emphasis on the past tense) looking at some grille replacements and saw more than my share of well known companies asking $500-$1500 for a mesh grille insert with an ABS shell. I could get an entire set of nice wheels at the top end of that range. Brutal. Now I know why I hardly ever see people bother doing it.
