HK subwoofer - anyone swapped it out and maybe add dedicated sub amp?

Just bought a 2019 Longhorn with the much-touted HK 19-speaker 900 watt system and the 12" screen. I wish I could say I'm blown away by this system, but I can't say that. I've piecemealed together numerous car stereos that sound better than this.

I'm not gonna even think about a new Head Unit, I don't think any are available, and I kinda doubt one will ever be made for the RAM's 12" screen unit.

But for starters, I'd at least like to clean up the bass response, which IMHO is pretty much horrible. It is either too much or too little with different music, and it booms like crazy, not a clean bass at all, plus it rattles back there. Not sure if it's cabin parts rattling, or the HK 8" sub, but any rattling or vibrating ruins the music completely. And I'm not even listening very loud.

So my goal is a new subwoofer (10"), with a dedicated amp. I've found a sub box here and I already have a good sub amp, and I have a decent 10" sub. Have any of you HK guys done anything about your subwoofer??? Curious how/where you wired into?

Thanks for any comments, Dave F.

I've seen write ups in other forums for this but I don't remember seeing anything here. The HK system seems to be pretty hit or miss. I really like the one in our 2020 Limited. But I don't normally have the volume up very high. I know that some guys have just unplugged the sub and were happy with that. I would suggest that you search the web for answers to this question. You might also check with crutchfield.com. They offer complete installation instructions and live help, along with any required adapters, free of charge if you buy from them. I'm just not sure if they have a bolt-in replacement sub for these trucks.

Update: After searching on Crutchfield it looks like they carry two different JBL options, but neither one is in stock. They have no idea on when they might have more of them. Sorry for the distraction LOL.

Yeah, thanks, I've been searching around. Just figured I'd take a swing of the bat here. I've used Crutchfield for many years. They are one of the greatest AMERICAN companies ever IMO.

I went to Crutchfield and I found the box in the pic below. You mentioned two options?

But this box could actually work for me, because I have one 10" shallow-mount subwoofer sitting on a shelf unused. Plus I have a brand new sub amp there too. Both pieces are from Crutchfield. I'd have to buy one more 10" subwoofer (identical to what I already have). But then I'd have Crutchfield experts to help me with the wiring, as I'm not sure where to tap in for sub amp signals. And I'd have two 10" subs back there, which means I could finish off what little hearing I have left pretty quickly!
