Has anyone found a way to install a less-stiff spring in the horn button? It annoys me that it's nearly impossible to get a friendly "beep-beep" from my horn. The button is so stiffI get 1 good blast and that's it. I plan to have my steering wheel off soon to add audio controls, so I thought it would be a good time to look into the horn as well. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, it's not the stiff spring of the button but a flaw with how the button is read by the BCM to honk the horn.

Agreed, in mine, there is no honk-honk...it's a delayed HONK

Nope. You could add your own totally seperate horn system though, using a cheap horn ,a relay and a momentary push button switch to control them.
I build fire trucks for a living. I have access to everything needed to install an airhorn on my truck, including a mini air tank, 12v compressor, and even a foot pedal switch that I could mount by the kick panel. There's a catch though...we don't sell parts, so I would definitely lose my job, and be arrested. I'll deal with my delayed HONK, thank you.

An airhorn is a bit much, you could easily add a normal cheap 12 volt horn though,with-out stealing parts from work.
$20 would cover everything easily, and maybe an hour or 2 to install it,voila, you'd have a horn that works normally, lol

I haven't bothered on my truck, but on my last vehicle (Jeep Grand) I ran a wire through the firewall to the relay and put a very small momentary switch next to the steering column. Feed ground or power (whichever triggers the relay) and boom, you have a discreet way to toot the horn in a friendly manner.

i've learned to punch the steering wheel to get a couple of short beeps. i hate the horns anyway. I do have an old road runner horn in the garage....maybe i could just hook that up...BEEP BEEP
Now that would be wicked :waytogo: I think you should do it;)

I’m lucky I didn’t have a mouthful of coffee when I saw this, rare that I “LOL” but this one definitely got me!

Maybe, he should have a warning icon on all his posts.

I recall one morning recently when I unexpectedly felt tea starting to squeeze through my lips after reading something silly.

Then again, it's always more fun when you don't expect it.

The problem is this; the horn signal goes to the right button assembly, where it is converted to LINBUS, then goes to the clock spring, where it is converted to CANBUS, then sent to the BCM, which then sends the signal to the horn to honk.

You would think data transferred signals would be just as fast, if not faster than a hardwired signal through a relay, but it's not. We use V-Mux on a lot of our trucks at work, and the delay from the time you hit the switch, to the actual function that switch is programmed to perform is astonishingly delayed.

Is there a remedy if that is the case? I do have Alpha OBD

There's a setting in alfaobd which can remove the delay, allowing instant hirn sound. I can't remember where it is located, but it does work. I haven't had a horn delay in about 6 months.

There were discussions on here about it last year. I don't remember if it was as a separate topic or as part of another thread.
