I just leave mine on all the time.

I had PIAA's on another vehicle, one of the best purchases ever, work every penny. They operate on a different circuit, and have their own switch.

With a 2018 you need a security module bypass to use AlfaOBD.
This site is sells them: https://www.kaodtech.com/
Deereguy runs this site, he's a forum vendor

What's the error your getting? Are you sure your connected to the BCM when trying to make the changes?

From your pic it doesn't look like you are connected to the obd2 reader. The bluetooth symbol is greyed out on your phone which means you are not connected. On alfaobd the home screen you have click the bluetooth icon and select your reader. Once connected select bcm, 2018 is now included in the last update a couple days ago, select connect then go to where you are. As mentioned above 18's need a security bypass cable.

So I still need to get the bypass for the AlfaOBD to work?
And can I leave the bypass connected or do I have to take it out after using?

So will I not need the security module bypass now because of the update or do I still need to get the bypass for the AlfaOBD to work?

As stated above, yes you still need the security bypass cable. Although you maybe able to connect to the bcm, it wouldn't allow you to make any changes.
Since I started using the app over a year ago, it only listed up to 2017. Once connected it would say my2018. But would only show options available for 2017 truck's. He added 2018 which adds whatever new options were available for 2018 truck's.

There is a really long good thread under the 4th gen diy on the forum. First page has most of the basic information you will need to get started, and lots of the basic changes that might interest you. I got my cable from deerguy on here, and it can be left under the dash connected, or removed whichever you prefer. Good luck and enjoy.

Still only android or windows. I picked up a Amazon Kindle fire 7 for $50 to use with alfaobd. Side loaded Google play store so I could download alfaobd. Any cheap android based product will work.

There is another app that I haven't tried yet that is available for iPhone that a few other members have used, OBD JSCAN. The app is free but you have to buy a license for whatever vehicle generation you want to use it on. I think it's like $15-25 per generation. Seems to have a lot of options. Not as many as alfaobd but most of the changes people make, drl, tire size, tpms, led/hid. And a bunch more

Here's a copy of Kaodtech's instructions:
