So, sounds like the lobes were going first on those?

Seems to indicate that the cam metallurgy is more likely the problem than the lifters, if the lobes are going first.
My thoughts, too.

I think maybe the heat treat on the cast iron cam isn't very thick. My #8 lobes showed pitting where the wear was starting, and it was definately wear because you could feel it with your fingernail.

I think the 5.7 equipped 2500's were still non-mds,and his is a 5.7
He didnt state what motor it was, but he did state a 2017…which they didnt put 5.7’s in them anymore.

His info shows 5.7. Pretty sure they still had the 5.7s in 17. Guy I worked with had a 17 or 18 regular cab long box 2500 with a 5.7. I forget the exact year but I know it was a year or 2 newer then my 16.

Where are you getting the new engine from?
Locally sourced, I talked to the mechanic today, he said he has a local machine shop prep his blocks and he assembles them himself

He mentioned the cam kit came from Texas Speed and Performance

Yeah, it's the 5.7...we didn't outright state it but someone suggested upgrading to a 6.4, that might have been a clue

Yes, both lobes. I will have to get you pics of those rollers, here's a vid:

at second 14 in your video, its hard to see exactly on my phone but it looks like that roller has no more chrome finish, possibly some galling.
which is to be expected considering the damage seen on the cam.

I will have to look them over closer. I will take some pics for you, might be a couple days before I get that far.

Well guys, got the truck back today

It's got a 'break in tune' on it , enough to safely run it for a few weeks before it goes on the Dyno for proper tuning after i get the rings seated

Only issue I'm seeing so far is a P000B code, cam shaft positioner needs to be looked at

I'll report back in a few weeks when I get the actual tune it, I had them replace the stock cam with a Texas Speed stage 1 unit, should pull a bit better off the line

This is kinda cool, I took the family out to dinner today and I had pulled the truck up, left it idling in the driveway as we were getting ready

My boy came out and went...woah, this thing sounds like the duster

Lol, not quite (that one idles like Cesar Zuiderwijk on Radar Love) but the truck does have a little lopeyness In her idle
