I want everyone to go out under the passenger seat and try to take out your jack

Good on the OP for reporting this...while it may not affect those of us in snow-free states (I'm in Texas), it's still nice to know; if nothing else, it's a reminder to get some useful tools in your truck for just such situations. The Ram you save might just be your own!

Haven`t tried to remove it on my 2014 1500 but when I removed the jack on my 06 Ram 2500 the wing nut broke off.

Now you got me worried about that wing nut and my truck is brand new. But I live in Maine, so in one winter it would be froze up, no pun intended.

Dont worry about it! All the frost heaves on your roads will have it popped lose within a few miles!

That is true about the potholes and frost heaves, not to mention when the frost-giants come through and dump a foot or more of snow.
As soon as rain stops up here, its been raining since yesterday (we get that too), I'll go slather some grease on the part of the bolt that sticks out the bottom of the cab. And give the top a shot of PB Blaster or WD.

I laughed at the OE jack once way back when. Then I had a flat and found my good jack would not fit under the axle when the tire is actually flat. The OE jack got the axle high enough that I could then use my so called good jack to finish the job. It may be worth keeping under the seat , ya just never know. I coat the threads below the cab with synthetic disc brake lube . It don't dry up like anti seize.

I had to use mine about 2 months into ownership and everything worked well. That said it likely is a good habit to pull everything out now and again just to make sure all is in order.

If you dont use it anymore, remember to plug the hole, would suck to get water in the cab lol.

I had to get mine out the other day and wow! That thing was a bugger. This was not designed very well. Really glad I tried to get it out in the summer rather than having to deal with it in a below zero Minnesota winter! I greased the crap out of the threads and just put it back in.

Had mine out last week to drop the spare. Needed to add a trailer light adapter. Came out a bit stiff for the first time but no rust, I live in AZ. I do want to get a 1/2" square half inch drive socket and a long extension to use in my drill to drop the spare tire.

I wouldn't even bother with that. Have a floor jack in a case in the back.

The last two flats I had, the road service, provided by my insurance company, did a great job. The spare tire is too heavy and it's too hot or cold to mess with it. Besides, the spare is dirty.

Yeah anyone having the issue with it getting stuck in there, I would run a bolt from the bottom up, maybe coat it with a sealant of some kind, thread on a washer and a nut to hold it in place maybe a rubber spacer of some sort to keep it all firm, then just use a wingnut on the top to hold the jack in place. to be honest I may just do that with mine cause i don't like having to pull the whole thing out of the floor.

I learned my lesson a couple years ago … went to Florida to visit my in-laws and ended up with a flat by running over a sea shell … I took a look at the jack and decided to call roadside assistance instead … I didn't even bother to remove the flimsy looking thing as it was a front tire that went flat and I didn't think the jack would even lift the front end … Now when I go a long distance trip I take my floor jack and cordless impact wrench as I had to wait for an hour before roadside showed up …
