Has anyone made a post comparing idle hrs vs drive hrs vs oil choice vs cam failures or not.?

With all the talk about cam/lifter failures and idle time and oil choice.

I have also been driving my truck in 7th gear with tow haul for the last 2 yrs or so on mainly because of my 35s being 110lbs at each corner and 3:21s but was thinking running down the hwy ay 2,000 rpm or so might just be better for the cam anyway then being in 8th at 1,600 rpm or so and getting better fuel mileage.

Just something I was thinking about.

My 2016 5.7 running Redline 5w30 for the last 30,000 miles or so.

There was a recent video with a guy comparing the internal layout of hemis and showed that they’re poor at throwing oil around compared to other engines. My understanding of his findings was that idling and low rpm driving was not the best and higher rpms will throw more oil around the top end resulting in more lubricated cams.
I have 42k with about 250 idle hours and 1050 driving hours. No ticks at all. I run PUP 5w-20 and added 1/3 of a can of ceretec the last couple oil changes. Engine seemed smoother after first time adding ceretec but no difference the second time. Maybe placebo...but a friend commented how smooth my truck was after driving it compared to his 2019 hemi.

Any problems with yours in those 146K miles? What brand/weight oil you using and brand of oil filter too...…...Thanks

mine by the way. Pretty similar to GWC. No Hemi tick. This change 5W30 QSUD WIX XP filter. Going back to Redline next change as it’s not worth the risk to save a few bucks.

Between all the discussions over the past few years about idleing these motirs and that video is why I made this post.

Just wondered if there were trucks out there with real high idle times that have had cam and lifters changed out or they are just fine, as well as there oil choice when the lifters gave out. :) Will the better oil or additional additives be enough to keep it lubed well ?

Thanks

I have low idle hours and had to have lifters and cam replaced.

My hours are wrong on my cluster but I'm sure I have pretty much no idle hours. My truck lives on the highway and I never idle it, even at -40 I start it and drive as soon as the RPMs drop down. I don't do drive throughs, I don't have any traffic lights on my commutes. If I'm stopping for more than a minute I shut it off.
I'm at 169k with no issues.

Funny thing is, with all this talk of idle hours being a leading commonality in lifter issues wouldn't auto start/stop actually increase the longevity of the Hemi then? Everyone hates it but I can only see it helping, idling is terrible for any engine.

I think the biggest issue is too thin an oil and too low an idle to meet emission standards.
added with a weak oil pump or poor oil circulation and some have issue.s
400 Idle hours, 2500 Driving hours, Cam and lifters replaced.

Now that the truck is out of warranty and my headache.
5W30 is going in with Liqui Moly.
Already got Redline oil and RP Filter on the way.

If nothing else, it will make me feel better.

I just added Molly to my oil. The only time I get any ticking is when I start up my truck move it forward or backwards and then shut it right back off. I’ll report if this tick goes away. Buyer beware the liquid Molly also has a gas treatment so be careful when you’re buying itBecause I almost put the gas treatment in my oil

1/9 of your time is idling?

I have 55K miles on my 2500 with less then 100hrs of idle ... I'm not going out to look.

Thats what it says, I have never really let my truck set and idle other than in the winter it gets 5-10 minutes at max and thats really only when it has ice on the windsheild.

Compared to other post here you idle hrs vs miles are crazy low.
