no issues in all of the miles I have. I run pup 5-30 with fram ultra guard filters oci are at 5-6k. No tick or issues so far. Hoping it stays that way.
So you been running 5W30 the whole time? If so that's great. Just goes to show for the doubters out there that running 5W30 instead of 5W20 is potentially a great start to avoiding cam/lifters down the road and that it has no effect on MDS operation one way or the other.

I think the biggest issue is too thin an oil and too low an idle to meet emission standards.
added with a weak oil pump or poor oil circulation and some have issue.s
400 Idle hours, 2500 Driving hours, Cam and lifters replaced.

Now that the truck is out of warranty and my headache.
5W30 is going in with Liqui Moly.
Already got Redline oil and RP Filter on the way.

If nothing else, it will make me feel better.
Hey btw the liqui Molly that i put in only treats 3.6 qts but I figured that was enough since M1 xcare has Molly in it too the bottle was 10.00

I had A “started up and move it and then shut it right back off” move yesterday that normally would cause the next start to have a 2 to 3 second tick. I started it this morning no tick so it looks like it worked today. I will check it again because the temperatures never even warmed before I shut it right back off today And yesterday I drove around quite a bit so that oil was probably still somewhat warm.

My hours are wrong on my cluster but I'm sure I have pretty much no idle hours. My truck lives on the highway and I never idle it, even at -40 I start it and drive as soon as the RPMs drop down. I don't do drive throughs, I don't have any traffic lights on my commutes. If I'm stopping for more than a minute I shut it off.
I'm at 169k with no issues.

Funny thing is, with all this talk of idle hours being a leading commonality in lifter issues wouldn't auto start/stop actually increase the longevity of the Hemi then? Everyone hates it but I can only see it helping, idling is terrible for any engine.

No block heater?

Update- stated it up and it did tick for 1 immediate second so it was a tiny better but not gone I did leave it idling for probably 7 minutes and did my normal take it up 2 to 3k then shut it off I’ll retest later

So went out again and tested- no tick so when I did a start with idle only i got a 1 second tick but when I stated it and idled it 7 minutes and up ran it up 2/3k rpms, no 1 second tick. I will say before the molly if I started it idled for 7 minutes then ran it up to 2/3k rpms I would still get a tick and it would last 2/3 seconds most of the time and if I did a start idle on and shutdown it would for sure tick hor 2/3 seconds so already it think the molly is helping

I guess mine are high compared to my mileage. I dont let it idle much, maybe guy before me did as he only put 5800 miles on it in 2.5 year of owning it.
I do have that few second start up tic occasionally, more so if started/ stopped and started an hour or so later.

I ordered redline AND Liqui Moly. Moly got here fist so I added to my PUP oil.
I had a slight tick, at start up and already had new cam and lifters, etc done
just before I ran out of warranty.

Drove truck to work. About 200 miles, where it sat for 2 days.
got home about 20:00 hrs, and decided to try remote start so I could stand
right beside the truck adn listen for any changes.
Nothing.

Still planning on switching over toe Redline 5W-30, since next cam and lifters will be my dime but
am also going to a can of liqui moly too.

Bought it on lark and cannot believe how well it worked.
They should put me on the payroll because I am a true Belliever now.

Ay what idle hrs and mileage were you at when the cam and lifters failed ? What oil and weight were you using ?

I just use whatever synthetic oil my mechanic shop has maybe I should change. I had the tick bad and I brought it to the dealer under warranty and they changed the entire front end so I basically got a brand new front end which is now warrantied for 5 years from Ram. The tick was gone until recently I hear it faintly on cold start ups.

The idle time is anytime your foot comes off the throttle. Mine seems high so I asked the dealer tech. When the throttle position sensor goes to idle at least in the 6.4l it also shuts off all fuel to the injectors. So technically every time you coast it’s “idle time”. Additional reasons NOT to use 5w-30 oil In the 5.7’s is that it is THICKER, and slings around less. The clearances on the bearings are so tight that running thicker oil can cause reduced oil flow. Think what you want and do as you please .... your truck, your $$$$. But if under warranty keep the 5w-20 in the 5.7’s.

5w30 is not "thick" oil. Plus at 220* it runs like water..lol
Most to all cam failures have been on 5w20. In the 5.7

Oh and lets not forget the same 5.7 in the 2500 takes 5w30 per FCA.
5w20 is all about CAFe standards and getting more fuel mileage.
Oh let's not foget the 6.4 using 0w40 and had the same lifters as the 1500s 5.7s use.

can read about it here:
https://www.ramforum.com/threads/shop-says-need-new-camshaft-tappets.147470/

Had it done at 97,000 miles, under warranty, Aug 2019.
Truck has had nothing but Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, since new.
Always had that one second lifter tick, at start up, but it got gradually worse.
So much so, that I thought it was actually the Exhaust Bolts and that is what I took it in to for.
Shop told me no, that's lifters.

Parked the truck about 23:30 hrs, started it up about 13:30 hrs.
89 degrees outside. All I could hear was the Awesome Hemi Power.
Zero Chatter, at start up or otherwise.

This is with PUP and Moly added.
Can;t wait to get Redline in there, with Moly.
Don;t need an oil change but as soon as that Redline shows up, at my door, it;s going in.
To hell with PUP

I guess I do not understand this post.

Are you letting us know that you often do silly things and we should disregard all of your current ideas
or that you were once silly, beyond belief, and now know better?

I mean, most of us, ate mud pies &/or boogers, at some point in our Lives but we tend not to discuss it now.

FYI, the above is Witty Sarcasm.

In case that is what you were going for, in your initial post.
Again, not sure, once read, what you were trying to say but thought I would try to help.
That is what we do here.

My 2012 Bighorn only shows engine hours-it doesnt specify idle from drive. If idle hours include coasting then I would expect mine to be high-I dont warm-up more than 2 minutes in winter, just drive easy till temps come up. I coast alot especially up to red lights to save on braking.
